Posted on 08/06/2009 7:43:05 PM PDT by Portnoy
I attended the John Dingell Town Hall on Health Care this evening in Romulus Michigan. The even was not promoted beforehand, yet more than 600 people showed up. The meeting was held in a room that only held 150 people. The first few rows were mostly Dingell Supporters, who, were NOT outside waiting with the rest of us. See my blog for more info.
Here is one of the videos:
More loading the audience.
It will backfire.
Here is a link..sorry, don’t know HTML very well:
All these arrogant politicians have to be told that are going to be voted OUT of office!!!
Truth to power! LOLOL
Thank you much Portnoy. Just watched from your link in the local forum.
The trouble is that Dingell is as bulletproof as it gets as far as his seat is concerned. He will do as he pleases.
“The first few rows were mostly Dingell Supporters, who, were NOT outside waiting with the rest of us.”
Such a standard and expected tactic. If only a republican would try this all heck would break loose and there would be special investigations.
We want AMERICA STRONG.
Old lady McCaskill coming to a town near me Aug. 10th. , but I will not to able to attend.
Some times when just a few drops from the river flows a new direction others will follow. Make it the thing to be anti-the candidate.
“He’s not what he used to be.” “He’s not representing us any more” to neighbors and friends.
Say it with authority and they’ll join you..Be a leader.....And remember to turn yourself in to the WH.
Good job - thanks for the post. 600 turned out! Excellent!
These congressional bastids have been lying for so long that no one believes anything they say any more. “Paid for by greater efficiencies and savings from fraud and waste.”
I don’t know how safe he is at this point. I’m seeing anger in Michigan that I’ve never seen before. My hardcore union uncle has started calling his Heroic Obama a word that I won’t use here.
I was also at this event. The parking lot was filled with cars, and many were forced to park on both sides of the street leading to the athletic center. This street is in a semi-rural area, so people were parking on the shoulder of the road. It is clear that this town hall meeting was attended by an audience far in excess of what is typical of such an event.
We stood in line for approximately 90 minutes, talking with others who had come out. The crowd was OVERWHELMINGLY against this healthcare boondoggle. Although it’s not a scientific measure, I’d estimate that it was about 10-1 against, as there were only a few isolated voices speaking in favor of Dingell’s plan. (according to the first page, he introduced it...)
In all, a very good sign. People are waking up, and we have to maintain and strengthen this enthusiasm. Although we couldn’t all make it inside to question Dingell, he had to know that we were there.
Many thanks for your efforts and those who showed up. Yup there trick tonight in tampa, MO and MI was to load it up with their SEIU, ACORN union buddies and let the PEASANTS and SERFS wait outside.
I can’t wait to confront my usless congressman here in North NJ. I have so many questions on health care I dont know where to start . Im behind enemy lines here so I’ll be lucky to get one quick question in. Anyone have suggestions for one really pointed question I can use to freak him out?
Now if you go to BARNEY FRANK’S meeting, you would probably see him get an earfull — LITERALLY!
Thanks for the repot and effort. Great that all these good people took the time to show up. Awesome.
Hopefully the NRA will finally decide to dump John “Two Gun” Dingell. He did a great job for auto union workers.
Great video, Portnoy. I was at the same meeting. I was sitting quite near where you must have been standing or sitting. I think Dingell and the jerk from the AARP got the message loud and clear. Not that it will make any difference.
I wrote to those donkeys at AARP. I actually got a response back from them telling me how we all have to stick together on Obama Care. I wrote them a scathing email back telling them basically how they suck because Obama Care will hurt the elderly more than anyone.
Guess I’m on the firstname.lastname@example.org list now...GOOD !
You never know. Corzine is tanking and maybe a flicker of electricity is in the brains of some Dem voters in Jersey.
Many of the idiots migrate to SC, NC and FL because liberalism has and is destroying Jersey yet they are too stupid to put 2 + 2 together. Gee high taxes bad? Uhhh??
I tell you it was a lot of fun. This was not a mob that was astroturfed by insurance companies. These were common, everyday citizens who pay their taxes, take care of their families and hold themselves to be responsible for themselves.
There was a kid in line who spouted all the “anti-Rush, Drudge Report” name calling that you see over on DU.
He didn’t stand a chance...lol. He quietly put down his sign and went to the sidelines and was seen only talking on his phone the rest of the evening...
"Ahhhh, but what about Dingle-Norwood?"
These congress-critters had better thankful that NO ONE brings hot tar & feathers! Because IMHO they deserve it!
What was their response to so many turning out?
Telling is one thing, doing is another.
Yoda says do.
Irregardless of the fact that they “packed” the crowd, Dingell knows that his pre-arranged audience was vastly outnumbered by opponents of Obamacare. He had to come and go the same way as everyone else and he saw the cars parked along the road. He knows that at a routine town hall, he gets a few dozen people and that this was overflowing.
Despite all their tactics, the message is not lost on them.
He was probably talking to his skanky friends..."Hey, I thought you guys said you were going to show up at this thing! I thought you said there were going to be a lot more ACORN people here! I feel like a jerk!"
At least Dingell showed up. My congressman (Mark Schauer - D) has turned turtle, cancelled his live town halls and is going to a phone-in style.
The most important thing about making a massive, angry showing at these townhall meetings is that the politician gets the message that we are paying attention and we vote.
It sounds like some of these politicians are taking their lives in teir hands promoting this baloney. I’m thinking you’ve got CW2 if this passes.
Amazing they don't comprehend their actions bring about reactions! They think they are attacking conservatives, but they are wrong - they are now attacking the very people who voted them into office.
I just saw this on the news.
A couple of things:
1.) The Democrats trying to push this off as ‘orchestrated by the insurance companies’ defies belief. This is pure grassroots. I’m reminded of Groucho Marx— ‘Who ya gonnaa believe, me, or your lying eyes?’. The absolute fury at Dingell was not made up.
2.) As visceral as was the fury at Dingell, his response was unequivocal. He said that these ‘disruptors’ were put up to it, and he said that in the most arrogant and condescending manner. He said that he’s been in Congress 50 or more years, and he’s made it his business to do what he thinks is right for his constituents, their voices be damned.
The anger on display looks like something out of a Hollywood movie— not that it’s fake, but that it’s surreal. Quite honestly, it’s a bit frightening. People are really, really pissed off about this. And I think the Democrats are completely and utterly mid-judging it.
It’s been said that the only thing holding the social contract together insofar as politics are concerned is the peoples’ belief that they are represented by their leaders. I dare say that that contract appears to be very near the breaking point.
I am not one to say this lightly, but if Dingell dismisses this as some sort of put-up job, I would not be surprised if some kook does something rash, if only to prove that this is *for real*.
It’s encouraging to hear about your uncle!
Mark Schauer (D)umbass, is a coward.
In MI it was probably UAW, MEA and Teamsters. Those are the unions with the political power. Of course I can’t see MEA roughing up concerned citizens. Maybe trying to molest them but otherwise a pretty timid bunch.
Dingell berry is 81 years old.
This arrogant jerk will be assuming room temperature at some point in the not too distant future based on his advanced age. We’ll see how arrogant he is when he has to face his maker.
Exactly. There is an extrapolation by politicians that for one person who writes or calls their offices to express an opinion, there is X number of others who think the same way, but don't write or call. I'm sure it is similar with public meetings, which take even more effort than just typing a few sentences or picking up a phone. The effort is not lost on them.
For those who duck and hide, the consequences will be even more severe. They have surrendered a major point to any future opponent who will drive the point home that they are cowards and do not care about the opinions of their constituents.
I wish someone would ask for some specifics such as:
What will the monthly premium range be for a single guy age 45?
What will the monthly premium range be for a couple, man age 70, wife age 65?
How will be premiums be collected?
The Rats, from Obama on down, think that winning an election means they can rule the idiots that voted for them and the rational people that voted against them.
According to the Media, the rational people are now the troublemakers because they don't kiss the feet of the people who kick them in the face.
Yes, I don’t think that Bozo will call out the guard as some people fear, he isn’t ready yet to pull that kind of crap(not that he isn’t working towards it). What the left will do is use all the “violence” by citizens to only hold phone in meetings in which they will only take calls that agree with them. This tactic will have disastrous results for the dimwits and RINOs who use it. It will all backfire on them. What the left is doing is patently obvious to most Americans right now, they are losing ground and they know it, hence the panicky calls to their thugs to show up at meetings.
THERE IS A COMMON THREAD HERE...
In Tampa, Romulus, and St. Louis tonite, EVERY ONE of these meetings started out with an Unassailable Victim Story from some poor sop...
How will be premiums be collected?
is easily answered and has been already on FR and even Rush mentioned it more than once. The former statement isn't a rebuke it is merely said to establish that this isn't something I made up.
The bill gives the Government access to your bank accounts, full access and they can rip the money right out of our account, without your permission.
What I want to see people do is ask these congress critters, and the AARP officials, why they are exempt from the health care plan and also why are Union thugs exempt from it also? If it is so great why exempt anyone?
Those questions more than any others will make them look like the traitors they really are.
They are losing the independents. I bet some moderate Democrats, who do not want to be euthanized, must be starting to have second thoughts.
Why are the Dem shills from AARP showing up!?! They are really pissing seniors off. LOL!
They are obviously a DNC front. Selling seniors overpriced and lower quality insurance, long term care, mutual funds, etc.
AARP = scam on seniors
I have been all over my rep and encouraging my co-workers to do the same. Mail, E-mail, Washington and Local. Give'em all you got. Be respectful yet firm in YOUR CONVICTIONS, NOT THEIRS.
