A New York City hot dog vendor has been evicted from his prize spot outside the Metropolitan Museum of Art because he couldn't pay a whopping rent bill of nearly $54,000 a month.

Snack cart owner Pasang Sherpa of Queens had a deal with the city's parks department that required him to pay almost $643,000 per year for the vending rights near the museum steps.

He says he was $310,000 behind on his payments when he was evicted.

You don’t supposed J Hoffa and other ‘disappeared’ peoples ended up in ‘dirty water’, with parts being consumed one dog at a time.

That is really a ‘sick thought’..

He’s behind by $310,000 of $643,000, so how does he take in near a million?

$653,000 is just for the rent (permit?), there is still inventory and operational expenses (as well as taxes), and of course after all that has to show profit ... I'm just guessing, but after all that his gross has got to approach a million

Yeah, you and me wouldn’t mind losing our jobs to a vet. What the hell’s the matter with her, worried about something stupid like losing her job.

I strongly recommend you come to New York for the vets' *grilled* (not boiled) hot dogs. And while you're there, stop off at the Museum. :)

The franks the vets sell are grilled, not boiled in water

Just a figure of speech, and personally I love the street dogs - whether grilled or 'dirty water' :)

They used to be a lot better years ago (the ones cooked in water). They had more flavor and used to ‘snap’ when you bit into them.

>>>citing a state law that gives veterans special vending privileges in the city.

So selling hot dogs might be a good option when you are mustard out of the service.

THAT, good Sir, were the famous Sabrett's hot dogs many vendors used/use - made with garlic and the casings gave/give that snap when bitten.

(I do believe I'm correct on this, having eaten many on the streets in Manhattan. Yummy - three all the way! (kraut, sauteed onions, spicy mustard...))

Even if one didn't relish the job, it would help ketchup on the bills.

Nah, some people just dont relish making a living that way. I rember a German guy who tried it, but after only a few months he turned into a sour kraut.

Isn’t Bloomberg in the process of outlawing hot dogs or something?

I always thought that the pushcart that used to sit (may still be there?) outside 11 Wall St. on New St. would be the top spot. Of course, the NYC Parks Dept. had no say at that location.

I will make myself a little clearer. When you read the interview, she is obviously a foreign national. My statement being that if it weren’t for a VET she probably wouldn’t be HERE selling hot dogs.
AND if it weren’t for VETS you wouldn’t be able to express yourself with such sarcasm — (the way things are going OUR service may have been in vain as it appears the Govt is attempting to forcibly silence dissenters)
You don’t seem to realize that while you (?) were going to college or marrying your dream guy (with name assuming you are female sorry if not)some 18 or 19 year old kid was running across Europe and Asia in the 40’s, Korea in the 50’s, Vietnam in the 50’s, 60’s 70’s, helping to ensure the people after them could ‘mock the govt’, ‘burn flags’ and enjoy the freedoms we now take for granted.
Today it is all volunteer but the eras I am citing many of them were draftees so they didn’t have a choice, I personally enlisted when I didn’t have to but that was my choice, did so rather than wait the draft.
Anyway why shouldn’t someone who ‘sacrificed’ his time and in many cases his body have preference when it comes to having a job?
Would you rather they be homeless or on the dole?
