Obama: Immigration bill this year By: Carol E. Lee August 10, 2009 02:04 PM EST
GUADALAJARA, Mexico Under fire from immigration reform supporters who say hes not moving fast enough, President Barack Obama said Monday he expects to have a draft immigration bill in Congress by years end but that lawmakers wouldnt begin to seriously debate the issue until next year.
He acknowledged that the fight for comprehensive reform would be difficult, saying, Am I going to be able to snap my fingers and get this done? No. . . . There are going to be demagogues out there who try to suggest that any form of pathway for legalization for those who are already in the United States is unacceptable.
Obama also predicted that Congress would pass his health reform bill later this year when more sensible and reasoned arguments will emerge a clear reference to the increasingly heated attacks being leveled against his overhaul plan by opponents.
Obama brushed back a suggestion from a New York Times reporter that the blows hes suffering in the health-care debate would weaken him too much to take on another massive legislative fight on immigration reform heading into the 2010 midterm elections.
I anticipate we'll do just fine in the midterms, Obama said. And I think when all is said on health care reform, the American people are going to be glad that we acted to change an unsustainable system so that more people have coverage.
On immigration, he added, Those are fights that I'd have to have if my poll numbers are at 70 or if my poll numbers are at 40. That's just the nature of the U.S. immigration debate. But ultimately I think the American people want fairness.

I am sure with unemployment at record highs and municipalities falling to bankruptcy like dominoes, the people are going to be excited about welcoming the illegals into legitimacy.
Am I the only one noticing that Obama keeps pushing controversial issues that are making the Democrat K Street Lobbyists FILTHY STINKIN’ RICH on the controversy??
Another line in the sand..................
Is it legally possible to recall a U.S. President?
This is good news. There is no way that amnesty will pass in an election year, and that means that when Obama tries to get illegals to the voting booth in 2010, they will still be illegal. They may vote, but their numbers will be down.
The hits just keep on coming!!!
No I think this ones in the water!! That way it can never be traced to HIM who drew it in the water!!
Here's some fairness - you broke into our country then you have to go back to your own country. Period. If we need workers we have a long enough list of people who have politely asked to come in to handle ten times our needs.

I think the Obama plan gives preference to these guys:

Right now, if we concentrate on killing off communist medicine, and we prevail, Obama won’t survive the illegal amnesty issue.
Those opposed to immigration reform now labeled by Obama as demogogues.
Also he is revamping education. I think he needs to be president to the communistic loving leftist people and TED NUGENT CAN RUN THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE COUNTRY.
“There are going to be demagogues ..”
Bite me Jughead.
Obama will say, "we must hurry this immigration reform through, economic recovery depends on it"
then brace for the flood of Islamics from Europe to get their free health care and green jobs
After socialized medicine
“fairness” is lib-speak for “Open Boarders”.
