MSNBC is having an on air meltdown over a man their camera crew videotaped openly carrying a handgun at an anti-Obama protest in Portsmouth, New Hampshire this morning near where Barack Obama will be holding a town hall meeting later today.

MSNBC showed footage of the man with the gun openly holstered to his right leg. He was holding a large sign with words about the tree of liberty.

The Portsmouth police chief informed MSNBC the man was legally armed.

The man was reportedly standing with a group of protesters on the property of a church.

More as this develops.

Exactly! Nice translation. Reagan said the same thing. What is it... a gallon of sweat in peace time is worth a pint of blood in war, or something like that?

It IS pushing the envelope. I admire the guys cajones! I’m not so sure the Secret Service will agree. I hope to see this on Fox News or I will be very disappointed. We don’t have an open carry in Pa.

Yes, in fact, you do. It's very strongly enshrined in the Pennsylvania Constitution, remember? Shall not be questioned, or some such?

Jim Noble was arrested for lawfully and peaceably carrying a firearm openly in the vicinity of an Obama campaign rally in Beaver, PA, while holding a bible ("clinging") and handing out pro-gun literature. He was arrested NOT by the Secret Service, who were aware of his presence, but by the local police. They prosecuted him for disorderly conduct and disrupting a public meeting, and a jury found him not guilty on all counts on July 17.

The Secret Service understands open and concealed carry laws - why so many Freepers and police officers don't, I just have no idea.

Fear the government which fears your guns.

Since when do they believe in one of those rights? Surely you must have had a brain fart on that one. LOL

Remember, these are unAmerican Nazis to MSNBC.

The “randomly selected” crowd at the Obama rant seems almost 100% pro-Obama. Just a coincidece, huh?

The harder you sweat in training the less you bleed in war.

Now I see the video with more detail, there is a strap over the hammer. It could not be easily taken from him.

And if an idiot from DU..an extremist from the left, brought a gun to a meeting with George Bush or Ronald Reagan, would we still see this same reaction from our side?

"I bought a 16 in steel baton that flicks open online. I taped the holster to my ankle when attending tea parties. Some union thug is in for a big surprise."

I'm in NY. They'd prolly arrest me for that. Is that legal??

They are all Butt hurt cause “someone has a GUN?” Is the “protestor” the only one that has a gun? I guess its because all the other people that have a gun, right there right now have MUCH better judgment, reason and common sense then any taxpaying American that actually is involved enough to consider the political issues that concern OUR country.
1. Why are the police and law enforcement carrying weapons at the same event, are they there to hunt deer?
2. Obama said to bring a gun to a knife fight
3. Obama’s justice dept. has no problem with weapons being brandished at polling places during elections
4. The Dems keep saying get in people’s faces, hit back twice as hard
5. Obama has yet to condemn the serious bodily injury directed at those that disagree with him by his own goon squads in the Unions

I would not advise open carry, however, for a variety of tactical reasons, not the least of which is that it makes you a target, and gives warning to the adversary.

It's the ace up one's sleeve that wins this game best.

Isn't it true that in 98% of defensive gun uses, no shot need be fired - only the sight of the gun in the hands of the intended victim is necessary to put a stop to the attack?

I'd rather have a mugger discover that I'm armed while they're still halfway across the road, turning their beeline towards me into a boomerang (yes, it happened to me), than after they've rushed me and punched me in the head before I have a chance to draw.

Your implication is that the man is question is an extremist for exercising his rights?

Your position is indefensible.

"Question? What would prevent a crazy nut from getting close enough to this man and be able to grab the gun out of the holster and start shooting? Are guns secured in a holster some way?"

His fist. And yes, usually holsters have a saftey strap to keep the firearm secure.
Notice from the pic his gun is secure, and a person would have to get right in his face to grab his gun. He'd probably already have his hand on it if some goon was approaching him in a threatening manner.

It's not as easy as you think to grap someone gun and start shooting either. Take yourself for instance. You aren't familiar with guns, so if you did manage to grab it, by the time you looked for and found the saftey, you'd be on ther ground spitting your teeth out.

Thanks for your replies. I am not familiar with guns and I can’t get You Tube anymore so I couldn’t see the video.

He might risk being tackled by the secret service if he showed up at the same time as the pres, but I would think they check out the situation before he is anywhere near the place, and would probably tell the guy to take it home, or turn it over for the duration of the visit.

The Secret Service ALWAYS, ALWAYS sets up a clearly-delineated perimeter where the president will be, and there is no way that anyone armed could simply wander into that perimeter without being identified, confronted, and disarmed by Secret Service.

When Jim Noble was carrying openly, people whined to the Secret Service. They talked to him, pointed out the perimeter, and sent him on his way. The local cops then figured they knew better than the Secret Service about how to protect the President and arrested him anyway.

No. That is not my position. As a gun owner myself, as is my husband, to bring a gun to an emotionally, angry charged meeting in public such as this, is irresponsible. And while many are defending his right to carry, it was bad judgement on his part as none of us know if he is an extremist. Plus, bringing a gun into this kind of atmosphere makes a responsible gun owner such as I very uncomfortable. It was bad judgement on his part.
