Pennsylvania Senate: Toomey 48%, Specter 36%
Rasmussen Reports ^ | 8/13/2009 | Rasmussen Reports

Uncomfortable town hall meetings are just the tip of the iceberg for Pennsylvania Senator Arlen Specter. He now trails Republican Pat Toomey by double digits in his bid for reelection next year and is viewed unfavorably by a majority of the state’s voters.

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Pennsylvania voters shows 48% would vote for Toomey if the election were held today. Just 36% would vote for Specter while four percent (4%) prefer a third option, and 12% are not sure.

These figures reflect a dramatic reversal since June. At that time, before the public health care debate began, Specter led Toomey by eleven.

Just 43% now have a favorable opinion of Specter while 54% offer an unfavorable assessment of the longtime GOP senator who became a Democrat rather than face Toomey in a party primary. Those numbers have reversed since June when 53% had a favorable opinion of him.

The current figures include 15% with a Very Favorable opinion of Specter and 36% with a Very Unfavorable view.

Just read Pat Toomey’s new book, “The Road to Prosperity.” It’s a strong, profound defence of free market capitalism. He would be a vast improvement.

“The poll did have the Toomey/Sestak match-up, Toomey wins 43% to 35%.”

Thanks for the info.

I wouldn’t write off Specter in the Dem primary just yet, but we should definitely keep tabs of how Toomey is doing against Sestak as well.

We’re going to win this race. Pat Toomey would be running for reelection now if it wasn’t for the RINOs and fellow-traveler conservatives that campaigned for Specter in the 2004 GOP primary, but revenge is a dish best served cold.

No. You can only vote for the party in which you are registered. If you are an independent, you can only vote on ballot questions.

Looks like ACORN has their work cut out for them.

They need to start handing out shovels now because it’s going to take a while to ‘dig up’ the needed votes.

I would love to see Pat Toomey have Sarah come and campaign for him. The liberals and moderate high minded class really could not handle that specter. And have her speak about those ‘death panels’.

This is what should happen to deal-making idiots like Specter.

Resolve isn't a word that Arlen is very familiar with.

< He is not a useful idiot any longer.>

The Democrats, a/k/a Socialists have no “friends”. They, like the Clintons, only have individuals and groups that they use to one degree or another.

Like the elderly. The elderly will be replaced by the illegals in 2010. From this point in time, the Democrats will concerate on how to kill the elderly.

As soon as their other voting blocs can be replaced, they too will be done away with.

“This poll is useless without also looking at a Toomey/Sestak matchup. That one is more worrisome.” The poll did have the Toomey/Sestak match-up, Toomey wins 43% to 35%.

I stand corrected! Excellent News!

Looks like Specter better schedule his “end of life consultation”.

2010
Going Republican (6): Pennsylvania, Connecticut (!), Delaware (!), Nevada, Arkansas, Colorado.
Endangered Democrats (4): Oregon, N. Dakota, Indiana, Illinois (!!!)

Even pulling close will set up a GOP takeover in subsequent elections, due to the silly number of Democrats who won red-leaning states in 2006 and 2008:

2012 (Even if the US goes back to 2000-like voting patterns)
Endangered Democratic seats (8): Nebraska, Montana, N. Dakota, Missouri, Ohio, Virginia, Flordia, West Virginia
Democratic seats which could get swept out in a GOP tide (3): Missouri, New Mexico, Michigan

2014 Endangered Democratic seats (6): Alaska, South Dakota, Arkansas, Louisiana, Virginia, North Carolina
Democratic seats which could get swept out in a GOP tide (4): Colorado, New Mexico, Iowa, West Virginia

Careful now, that could be interpreted as a death threat. The libtards are desperate to claim we are radical and violent.

It looks like there will no longer be a Specter hanging ove rhte US Senate.

How will liberals explain that away?

Unfortunately, I bet this helps Sestak. Can Arlen become an independent? hen he, Sestak, and Toomey can all run and Toomey will win in a landlide.

only 48% would vote for toomey? Even AFTER the snake Spector became a traitor? Even AFTER the snake faield so miserably in town hall meetings? Those votign for toomey should be more like 60% or more for crying out loud! Spector BETRAYED penssylvania, and He’s still got 36% support? I’m QUICKLY losing my faith in the American people if they keep siding with losers like spector, Pelosi, Reid, Frank etc!
