This is just the basic Muslim strategy of taqiyya (lying to the infidel) combined with hudna (phony truce to regroup).

I don’t know what Alinsky called it, but I’m sure there’s Marxist terminology for it too.

I’m very suspicious. What exactly does a “co-op” entail and how is it different from a “public option”?

We really need an effective slogan like

TORT REFORM NOW

or

TORT REFORM FIRST

Let Congress address that, which is estimated to inflate medical costs by $100 BILLION/YR in the US, FIRST.

Also, we must DEMAND that ALL PUBLIC EMPLOYEES INCLUDING CONGRESS be MANDATED to enroll FOR LIFE in any “public option” they create first.

I agree with you. This is a simple misdirection ploy in an attempt to regain their initiative by quieting the opposition. We MUST NOT be had by them.

Dump ALL the current Dem “plans”.

TORT REFORM NOW.

Other things can be done more slowly- one by one in small easily intelligible bills.

I don't believe it.

I think this is just a tactic to quiet down the town halls, but as soon as Congress returns to DC the public option will be right back on the table.

I agree with your excellent post#114 ... it is good to be a
“simple old soldier”.

I am pushing for TORT REFORM NOW and FIRST because that one item may actually reduce medical costs by many tens of billions of dollars per year,

PLUS- it will prove that these lawyers in Congress might be serious about doing something that is right for the people for a change.

Forget the rest for now. Tort reform can and should be done all by itself.

I remember something like that too. But of coure the issue is, could they bureaucratically expand coverage to include all Americans. I think not under current law or they would have done so.

I’m not suggesting we let up, but here’s my take on it.

Obama has lost. Now the best he can do is co-op the conservative platform of insurance reform and adding increased competition to the mix. It’s actually a shrewd move...kind of like what Bill Clinton did to save his Presidency by signing welfare reform.

So before we say no way, we should see what it really looks like then either claim Obama caved or fight against it if it’s not going to make anything better.

But politically speaking Obama may be pulling one out of his arse that really pulls the rug out from underneath us...we need to be careful. Let’s just focus on what’s best for our country and we will always be on the right side.

Actually, the GOP option is based on tort reform, the dropping of interstate barriers to insurance purchasing, and the encouragement of individual purchases through tax credits. Unfortunately, they’re getting no coverage for it and don’t really seem to be pushing very hard.

In any case, with all the money that trial lawyers have given to Barry and the gang (something like 80%+ of their political contributions), I don’t think there’s much chance of this. But I’d like to see more GOPers fight for it.

This is incrementalism and an effort to save the president's poll numbers.

It also provides an opportunity to paint nationalized health care opponents as intransigent wing nuts.

Don't fall for it.

Every problem we have traces back to the government and it's interference in our lives and enterprise.

Expect to see more of this before September 12.

OMG DU is so far off their rocker its funny.

They are blaming the GOP but they dont grasp, the GOP is compleatly out of power and doesnt even have the ability to do a filibuster in the Senate.

The BLUE DOGS undercut them and the turnout at all the Town Halls across America. Even those Dems not in Red State areas saw VOTERS, not bused in ACORN & SEIU thugs. Even with the bussed in efforts they had no chance to outnumber Jon & Jane Q Public from outnumbering them.

Now, Obama and his cronies could very well be doing a “Bait & Switch” we need to kill that House bill and have them draw up a new bill with the Co-Op stuff so we can look it over. Whenever you see them want to “rush” a bill thru. There is a reason......IT SUCKS, ITS BAD FOR AMERICA

KEEP AN EYE ON THEM - but for now get some entertainment and DU’ers in their misery.

I think they know they’ve lost and now they are trying to get “anything” to pin a victory on.

It is pretty clear that there are issues with our current health care system. Insurance companies have too much discretion in who they insure. Doctors are so afraid of malpractice suits that they order frivolous tests. People without insurance use emergency rooms as primary care facilities. Doctors “treat as taught” - a doctor who knows how to do bypass surgery really well will tend to diagnose patients as needing bypass surgery. The list goes on and on.

Real “reform” will only come when:

There are limits placed on punitive damages in malpractice cases.

Doctors, not the government, codify treatment regimens.

Patients are made aware of ALL their treatment options.

Insurance is made portable.

Competition is restored to the business of medicine.

I completely agree with you, and that the ignored Republican proposal is at least fair, in its broad outlines. But there is NO reason that TORT REFORM can not be done completely independently, and that one item has HUGE cost savings associated with it. We may not even be able to fathom how much pressure would be taken off the system if doctors and insurance companies didn’t have to espouse defensive medicine and worry about accommodating lawsuits. The headroom gained in the whole medical industry may make it rather simple to extend coverage to more people at far less cost.

The MAJOR reason, though, is that VERY FEW people are fans of the trial lawyers, and politicians of BOTH parties are beholden to them.

IF the Congress worked on TORT REFORM FIRST, they might gain a little trust, which is something that very few of them can lay claim to today.

It would be good for Business, Medicine, The People, and possibly the politicians.

The bill will be DOA. Even with public option traded in for a co-op. In that case the dissatisfied liberals will vote no, and so will the more conservative Republicans (still), and it will be narrowly defeated.

Mark Levin & talk radio deserve a lot of credit along with FR. They'll have to shut down free speech and the Web before they can "move on."
