I have posted several recent commentaries over the past few months which dispute both global warming being caused primarily by carbon dioxide (it may have a smaller contribution) as well as any global cooling "ice age" scenario.
Why? Not due to any political ideology I assure you, but because the data is not consistent with either viewpoint. I am unconvinced in particular that mankind is causing global warming. First of all, the warming has taken a vacation for about the past five or six years, which doesn't make sense as CO2 increases every year.
Second, frequently touted facts such as shrinking arctic sea ice (true) prove nothing about human caused climate change. It is readily admitted by the NSIDC (www.nsidc.org) that changing weather patterns and ocean currents are the primary drivers behind recent years of summer ice melt. Furthermore, 30 years is a darned short time span in which to draw any conclusion (from ice trends) on either cooling or warming!
Having said all that, we owe it to ourselves as a civilization to continue research and not follow the mantra of the elite, nor to buy into the hysteria of conspiracy-minded websites.
I invite you to read the article linked to here(pdf) which is authored by a scientist much more learned than I and to do it with an open mind. On the flip side, you’ll find as you investigate the "Al Gore" side of global warming people that are equally sincere and convinced of their viewpoint: but it's based on modeling and a very short time scale of data, which places the science supporting the anthropogenic warming on shakier ground.
And right now global warming is on vacation; I just hope legitimate scientific inquiry and dissent is not.
Remove but one assumption and it can make sense.
I can summarize it for the AGW crowd in just one word.

However, any claim that an ice age will begin within a few short years (although not impossible in principle) is pure speculation, not science.
My favorite blog has a theory about that, too....
Think about how complicated everyday life would be if we didn't all agree that "=" is a definite statement of identity. What would life be like if, on one day, two plus two was equal to four, and on another day, it was not? It might make an interesting story to ponder just how fast a complex civilization would melt down if all of a sudden people couldn't agree on the meaning of "equals."
Ah well, in the good old days we used to just wage war on our neighbors and sacrifice the POW’s to the gods. Didn’t help with the weather, but we threw a good party after each sacrifice.
That there could be some plausible explanation for the recent decrease in global temperature (which I challenge, by the way,) does not save the recent temperature record as any sort of proof of the AGW theory. And without that proof, AGW is dead in the water.

keep in mind that the worry in the mid 70's was that there was an impending new Ice Age ...
30 years later, we have now shifted our manufacturing to China and India and they are building one and a half coal fired power plants every week. These plants are emitting so much sulfuric acid that we are now seeing acid rain on islands to the east of China. And the result of China burning dirty coal is to put huge amounts of particulate into the atmosphere
These enviro-nuts are refusing to let us build 'clean-coal' and nuclear plants in our country where we could actually control the emissions and are instead killing our economy and putting the control in the hands of other countries that couldn't give a $hit about their environmental views.
Al Gore shot his load too soon ... it's not warming that is coming ... it's cooling. That's why the enviro nuts had to switch from 'Global Warming' to 'Climate Change'.
Their main problem is, that if you want to stop 'Climate Change', you need to allow responsible use of the natural resources. The enviro-nuts are playing a zero-sum game in our country and, because of that, we can't compete economically with the far east. They are killing our country and we will soon lose our influence on global affairs.

What really bothers me is the corruption of science. This issue of CO2 and the greenhouse effect is not a new one to physics and has been quashed years ago. The thermal blanket of CO2 that we have in the earth supposedly warms us by trapping radiation, but this principle violates physics. You probably were taught that a greenhouse (and the earth) are warmed because radiation enters, hits the ground, is converted to infrared, and is stopped by glass (or CO2). This is a myth disproven as early as 1909. Greenhouses actually become warm by limiting convection, and this isn’t the issue with the earth. So, given that this is well known, the climatologists who tell you otherwise are flat out lying.
What does that mean for those who don't know, and what's its derivation?

You are right on! I am embarrassed by the so called scientists of today - it seems to be all politics to them.
Just goes to show that you can NOT take any scientist’s view as truth - they are just probably trying to justify their existence or looking for another grant.
In all...geez, the world to becoming political - hell with science...
There is golobal cooling at the moment. At some point it will warm again.
It’s a cycle.
Typically used as a term of mocking and derision, much as "FAIL" is.
