There is already federal law that covers monopolies:

“United States antitrust law is the body of laws that prohibits anti-competitive behavior (monopoly) and unfair business practices. Antitrust laws are designed to encourage competition in the marketplace.”

There is not real competition in the insurance market now. State legislatures determine which and how many insurance companies can operate in a state and they also determine what the insurance companies must cover, etc.

Obama is right that there needs to be more competition. Unfortunately, he’s not proposing the right way to get more competition.

Yes, we need interstate competition, but it seems that both parties are against that concept.

Really? If you were paying attention during last year's presidential campaign, you would know that McCain and Obama differed sharply on this issue. McCain advocated that Congress allow health insurance policies to be written across state lines, while Obama sneered at the suggestion.

Can we say interstate competition democrats!?

Careful what you ask for ... the mergers that followed the advent of interstate banking were one of the underlying causes of the present big financial mess.

No telling what mischief huge insurance mergers might initiate.

Leave it to the MSM to do a story about lack of competition in the private health insurance market and not even mention state imposed mandates as a cause of the problem nor writing insurance across state lines as a possible solution! (Only the Dummycrats' public option is the panacea, according to this AP dimwit.)

Yes, we need interstate competition, but it seems that both parties are against that concept.

That's why we need to clean out all incumbents who continue to support the status quo.

It wasn't the mergers. It was lack of proper Congressional oversight.

If John McCain Really advocated that Congress allow health insurance policies to be written across state lines, why is it that he never proposed such a bill in the U.S. Senate?

I agree with you 100%

that is the solution to this problem, but that simple regulation opening the markets does not fit their plan to socialize amerika
