Why I Cheer the Whole Foods Boycott: Poetic Justice for Pan-Terrorist, Israel-Hating Retailer
www.DebbieSchlussel.com ^ | 8/21/2009 | Debbie Schlussel

The usual cadre of ignorant prominent conservatives is urging us to support of Whole Foods because left-wingers are boycotting the overpriced gourmet food chain since CEO John Mackey wrote an op-ed against ObamaCare in the Wall Street Journal. Sorry, but I have no sympathy for the guy. What goes around in his store’s behavior, comes around, even in organics.

(snip)

But, unlike them, I look beneath the surface of silly, shallow talking points and principle-free partisan knee-jerking. And I’m not upset that Whole Foods is being boycotted. In fact, I love it. It’s a great episode in poetic justice for a store chain that helps fund and promote jihad and anti-Semitic/anti-Israel radio programming. And now they’re getting what they deserve . . . from their own crazy ideologue.

Yes, John Mackey and his store are now getting a taste of their own medicine–the very orthodoxy they practice against Israel is now being practiced against him.

A story I broke on this site documents how Whole Foods refuses to carry Israeli olive oil. I documented how the store has, instead, chosen to carry, vigorously promote, and subsidize Palestinian olive oil made by extremists who support Islamic terrorism. The olive oil, Canaan Fair Trade olive oil, sends its profits to fund scholarships at An-Najah University (and even worse “schools”), where the majority of the student body is in HAMAS and recruits for HAMAS, and where official school displays glorify the homicide bombing of innocent civilians at Sbarro pizzeria in Jerusalem, and mock its blown-up victims.

Do a google search - “products from Israel at Whole Foods” - you’ll see all the wacko articles advocating for boycotting Whole Foods BECAUSE THEY CARRY PRODUCTS FROM ISRAEL.

No, I’ll have to try it some time. If it’s anything like the Dr. Brown’s sodas I normally see on kosher shelves, I should enjoy it.

I’ll take a look. I would rather not boycott them since I did appreciate his health care article and I hate that the crazy left is attacking him.

Also they have some products I can’t find elsewhere.

So what’s with Schlussel?

Thanks Berosus. The local cool cookin’ store (I’d rather shop there than some chain like Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods) carries delicious halvah from Israel (at the very least, now I’ll have to swing in there tomorrow and check things out).

Just because Mackey has Jewish friends doesn’t mean he supports Israel. If you go through a Whole Foods Store you will find NO Israeli products. You have to remember many American Jews today are turning into traitors to their Jewish heritage and are betraying Israel. I for one will for now on go to Trader Joes, where generally the prices are much lower and you can find Israeli Products

“Just because Mackey has Jewish friends doesn’t mean he supports Israel.”

By the same token, just because he doesn’t sell Israeli goods doesn’t mean he’s an “Israel Hating Retailer.” Even so, Whole Foods is listed as a retailer that sells Israeli products by “CJP.org” (Combined Jewish Philanthropy). see:

http://www.cjp.org/page.aspx?id=59442

I happened to have dinner last night with my group of mostly Jewish friends (not they anti-Israel type either) that deal with Mr. Mackey on every day. When I told them there was a thread going around the internet that Mackey was an “Israel Hating Retailer” they found it so funny that they made jokes about it for the rest of the evening.

I rarely go to Whole Foods, I’m not particularly fond of John Mackey, but I feel 100% confident in saying that he bears absolutely no ill will toward Israel or Jewish people.

But hey, if Trader Joes has better prices - go for it !

As if grocery shopping wasn't complicated enough, what with trying to figure out what's healthy, what's in it, what's the best bargain, what can I afford...Now I have to worry about whose politics are more palatable?

Overload! Too much! I'll buy the biggest, cheapest, best tasting bottle of extra virgin olive oil I can find. I thought that was what free markets were all about.
