Martial arts instructors condemn bully bashing

WINNIPEG -- Martial arts instructors are condemning a Winnipeg mother's decision to enrol her bullied son in kick-boxing classes and give him permission to retaliate against his tormentors.

The mother, who asked not to be named, gave her son the green light to "kick the snot out of " his alleged tormentor when school starts next month.....

The mother said a bully has been tormenting her son for years. Both boys are in their early teens, and have attended the same school in Louis Riel School Division.

"It's about time he took a stand and stood up for himself," she said in a recent interview with the Free Press. "He has my full permission to kick the snot out of [the other boy] if he comes up to him."

Mr. Beltran and Mr. Pabuaya both stressed that selfdefence preaches mental discipline before physical training. Both emphasize verbal interaction to avoid heated confrontations.....

The teachers don’t have to be everywhere all the time. It takes a good parent to drag the bad parent to the police station or the principal’s office enough times to get it to quit.

I had my son’s bullies ringing my doorbell at night. I purposely answered the door every single time. I finally saw one of the kids in my bushes. I told the parents the next time I see anyone in my bushes at night I would treat the shadow as an armed burglar. That stopped the kids from my property.

You’re correct. Act crazier than the bullies and they leave you alone.

“”“He has my full permission to kick the snot out of [the other boy] if he comes up to him.”

My dad used to tell me that I should stay out of fights and if I didn’t, he would kick my a$$. Dad also told me that if I were forced to fight to defend myself and refused or lost, he would kick my a$$.

He warned me that in any case, I was required to be right and to be honorable... and if I was, he would support me in anything.... he did.””

Hey man. I think we had the same dad. Mine took me out to dinner one time for finally beating the crap out of a bully. He told me that he was glad that I finally realized that sometimes a crazy temper can be a good thing. If folks think you're crazy the likelihood of being picked on is greatly reduced.

Typo on my part. 'Medulla oblongata' is the correct term. It's a very easy target, as no one is naturally compelled to defend this target; and it's pretty vital . Present company excepted.

Someone has recommended Krav Maga, an Israeli self-defense system. I think it’s also referred to as

Jewdo or Jewjitsu. :)

My father always told my brothers, “Don’t start a fight, but hit back if someone hits you.” I told my boys the same.

Shoot, I told my GIRLS basically the same thing.

"Never start a fight, always end a fight."

School employees are trained to hold both students equally responsible.

I told my kids to protect themselves. I don’t care what the school creeps said.

This isn't about revenge.

When a student tells the teacher that he wants to learn a martial art so he can beat up a specific person; that's pretty much revenge. If the student had an ounce of common sense he would say "So I am not beaten by bully's". One shows intent to harm, the other states a desire to protect oneself.

If you worked in a Gun Shop, and a person said "I want to buy a gun because I want to blow a hole in Billy Bob Jones" - would you sell him a gun? Probably not, because you would be aiding in the commission of a pre-meditated felony act, and you would risk sharing in the punishment phase.

Same scenario, the guy says "I want to buy a gun because I want to blow a hole in any burglar that breaks into my home". That's the difference.

I hope the kid has learned a whole lot over the summer and the bully is a wuss-type bully rather than one who actually likes to fight because mom has painted a pretty big target on sonny.

Funny how no one here ever admits to have been a bully once. Here is my story. I was the smallest in my group of friends, the smallest kid in my elementary school. Yes, even in the 5th grade, I was smaller than the first graders (I grew up in big, corn-fed WhiteBoy-ville, and I loved every minute of it). I had been picked on by so many bullies, but I learned to befriend much larger kids in order to survive. I had this one friend, member of the swim team, older than the rest of us. He was my best friend, hung around him all the time, worshiped him. He used to harass other kids, but not me. I thought it was so funny and kinda cool, I mean, I was safe. He even picked on the others in my group, they dealt with it, grudgingly. He laughed about it, I didn't really like it, but said nothing. After a couple of years, I realized that, since I was there with him when he did these things, and I did nothing to stop it, then _I too_ was a bully. I remember when the realization hit me, it made me feel sick.

Soon after that, he started picking on one of my other friends, basically, he tackled him and was punching him and giving him "noogies", which for him was basically a punch in the head with a knuckle, which produced large welts. So I told him that he should get off of him. He looked at me incredulously and laughed, "No!". This pissed me off...

Now, I'll describe myself a bit as a child. Yes, I was a short, dark kid, but I was kinda tough and strong for my size. My bully-friend had taught me to fight..

See, by this time, I had recognized my bully-friend as one of those bullies who was actually a coward at heart... So this time I furled my eyebrows and asked him again to get off of my other friend. He laughed again, looked at me and mocked, "No, and what are you gonna do about it?". I replied "Get off of him or I'll THROW you off!". He chucked and went back to beating on my other friend. Well I saw red, and then watched myself from above as I walked over to him, grabbed him around the waist, twisted and twirled and literally threw him several feet onto the street. He got up, shocked and a little bloodied (scraped elbows). I was shocked as well, and apprehensive as he contemplated his next move for a moment. But all he did was grunt a forced chuckle, look embarrassed, and walk home.

I never spoke to him after that, and he was never in our group of friends again. I moved away from the neighborhood not long after that, and found out later that he found some new friends his age, and left the old group of friends alone. Funny thing is that I kind of felt sorry for him, that look on his face when he got up off the street. The shock and humiliation, made me a little sad honestly, but he had it coming.

"I teach my kids respect, discipline and courtesy and work on those three," Mr. Beltran said.

Yeah, those are REALLY effective against bullying, you moron.

The gatlin boys just laughed at him, when he walked into the barroom.
One of them got up and met him halfway cross the floor.
When tommy turned around they said, hey look! ol yellows leavin.
But you coulda heard a pin drop when tommy stopped and locked the door.

Twenty years of crawlin was bottled up inside him.
He wasnt holdin nothin back; he let em have it all.
When tommy left the barroom not a gatlin boy was standin.
He said, this ones for Becky, as he watched the last one fall.
