Our post Catholic comments on Ted Kennedy, pro and con showed readers were deeply split on whether the late senator should have a Roman Catholic funeral. The naysayers argued that his support for choice on abortion and other disagreements with Church doctrine disqualify him from a religious ceremony. Those for a church funeral argued that he helped advance many causes championed by Catholic social teaching.

The Catholic Church in the US does not follow it’s own teachings.
Too late. The funeral just ended.
56 no
43 yes
He should be treated no different than any other catholic that has committed a sin for his political stands.
NO, and Heck NO catholic funeral.
If he had not had two assassinated brothers, know one would even know who he was.
“If he had not had two assassinated brothers, know one would even know who he was.”
Well, except for letting a girl die...
*Ping*
Forty years in the Senate might rate him a mention upon his death.
The importance of being near the seat of earthly power is more important than truth.
Er, why shouldn’t he? He was a Roman Catholic after all and I assume he made confession, received Eucharist and last rites before his death.
The good Sisters of Charity taught me many years ago not to judge how God will receive a person. We cannot know what was in the heart, mind and soul of a person at the point of death. The only time I can recall a nominal Catholic being denied Christian burial was a Mafia don who had been assassinated while having lunch in a Brooklyn restaurant in 1979. Cardinal Terence Cooke refused any rites in the Archdiocese of NY. His spokesman cited not only the life of the person, but the manner of his death, providing no time for contrition. Since I do not know Kennedy’s thoughts in his final days I am in no position to say his Rite of Christian burial was inappropriate.
I think he needs a Burial At Sea. Only they should drop him in the water under the Bridge at Chappaquiddick.
Would Satan get a Catholic funeral?
I dont hve a problem with Kennedy having a Catholic Funeral, but I dont think a Cardinal should have been there to suck up to the family.
We are not to judge. God is the judge. If the Kennedys choose to turn a blind-eye to the murder of Abortion that is their own horrific choice. Do I consider Ted and clan "Catholics"? Of course not. No Christian can condone, embrace or support abortion in any manner whatsoever.
However, I am not the judge.
Now no Catholic bishop has the right to criticize any politician who supports abortion such as Pelosi, Kerry.
Catholics, including bishops and priests, have every right to condemn the killing of the unborn. We do not have the right to play God and judge them in death. For all we know, Kennedy may have made a full confession of his sins. If we believe Christ died for our sins - big and little - we must believe that there is forgiveness and redemption for all.
All of us will stand before God after death and none can judge but God.

Teddy's Catholic funeral is happening now.
I'll say this ... I can speculate ... I don't believe Teddy and I will be spending eternity together.
Think about all those ABORTIONS that happened under Teddy style compassion. Think about all those people kept DOWN in life through Teddy's socialism by RACE in the beginning. While Teddy may have done some nice things ... the EVIL he endorsed, imo, is overwhelming. There is nothing more important than a human life.
As I think about the Kennedy wealth ... what did they ever PERSONALLYT contribute? It's always a foundation or something like that where YOU get to make THEM look good. NO, I am NOT impressed with the Kennedy's.
