Fox unlikely to air president's speech

President Obama's televised primetime addresses are becoming a tougher sell to the broadcast networks than his sweeping health care reform has been to Middle America.

A day after news broke of the president's plan to address a joint session of Congress on health care issues in primetime Wednesday, none of the Big Four networks have said it would carry the address live.

Among other things, the nets have been waiting to hear when the address will start, with sources indicating Thursday night that the White House was leaning toward 8 p.m.

After a brief honeymoon after Obama's January inauguration, the broadcast networks have become increasingly frustrated by the frequency of his requests for primetime coverage. The pre-emptions wreak havoc on the networks' schedules and cost millions of dollars in lost ad revenue.

I haven't seen any other update to this story, nor have I seen any definitive indication if other networks will run it - I suppose that they will. The story goes on to say that the WH is polling the networks to see if a 9:00 pm airing would be better for them, FWIW.

That would be just dandy. If one or two networks bail, the others will follow suit (except for bootlicker NBC), since they won’t want to lose the revenues.

Isn’t next week when all the Season and Series Premieres start? I think these networks might be a little reluctant to put on some showtime.

Apparently the President’s repetition of talking points isn’t newsworthy!
I’m sure they’ll be prepared to break in if developments change.

What could he possibly say that would be any different than the already established talking points of Choice and Competition?

Fox has the Season premier of GLEE on Sept 9 at 8pm

That show is now my 15 year old and her friend’s favorite tv show.

As long as he doesn’t screw up Monday Night Football, House, Dancing with the Stars, and Survivor, he can yap all he wants.

11PM would be ok with me.

Well, that would conflict with the local news.

I suppose they could try 2:00 AM, but they'd probably get cramed by the Extenze infomercials.

"11PM would be ok with me."

3:00 am would be better. 4:00 am would be best.

Maybe they should run on the PBS stations. After all, they are public events. And there’s always the possibility of a re-run on CSPAN.

I'm betting he also says that when they "change everything nothing will change between you and your doctor."

Such coverage should be reserved for the State of the Union, or a major address concerning national defense or national calamity.

With a majority of the Senate and the House at his bidding, and with no need to persuade the opposing Party in order to pass his unpopular effort to force government control of insurance companies, health care providers, physicians, therapists, and ordinary citizens, such a speech, if carried by all the networks, now places him in control of the media too. Imagine the revenues lost, and the shows rearranged for purely political purposes.

No President, of either Party, should make such demands. It belittles the Office.

This speech will not be news. It will be BS. The same old, stinking BS we’ve been hearing for months now. They’re just gonna put it in a new bag.

I watched it because nothing else was on and it’s actually a cute show.

Exactly!
The ‘community organizer’ seems to plan to line up all the players and lecture them. Totally unprofessional.
That’s what happens when you lack experience.
