Thousands expected at anti-tax rally (Tea Party Express - Michigan)

If you're mad as heck with government and don't want to take it anymore, the Tea Party Express wants to release those frustrations.

The tour is coming to the Mill Pond in Brighton at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, and local residents are gearing up for it. Several busloads of conservative activists have been making a cross-country tour that has been named after the legendary Boston Tea Party, where American colonists dumped tea into Boston Harbor in protest of the British government's policy of taxing them without representation.

Although local supporters said the gathering isn't a Republican rally, it's clear the event is geared toward people with conservative views on health care and government spending.

"It's really not a Republican thing or Democratic thing," said Mike Murphy, chairman of the Livingston County Republican Party and Livingston County undersheriff.

"It's a grass-roots, conservative, anti-tax thing," Murphy said.

Murphy's planning to attend the event, and he expects it will draw several thousand residents.

The Tea Party Express is scheduled to stop in Jackson at noon, Brighton at 3:30 p.m. and Troy at 6:30 p.m. Murphy said there are a "lot of people who are just normal folk" who are upset with the direction in which government is headed. He said residents are worried about higher taxes when they hear about government plans to administer health-care programs.

"It doesn't make any sense to fix it for a small percentage of folks and burden a larger percentage of folks," he said.

I guess if any state in the country knows the liabilities of liberal politics, that state would be Michigan.

There are THREE rallies planned in Michigan. See teapartyexpress.org for more information.

THEN WHY THE HECK DID THEY RE-ELECT JENNY GRANHOLM TO THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE?

I'm sorry, but when they did that in November '08, I said: "Michigan deserves what they get". Now, eat it Michiganians!!!

Um, you could replace American for “Michiganians” and there wouldn’t be any Tea Parties at all. Do all Americans deserve “what they get”?

And btw, it’s Michiganders.

You know, we have the (vast right wing) Militias?
We have a hugely corrupt system up here. If you look by county, we are mostly R.

I’ll be in Troy.

I hate to tell you this but that argument was settled back in the late 70's or early 80's.....per records of the State Legislature, people living in the State of Michigan, are officially MICHIGANIANS....not Michiganders; check it out. Although, Michigander is the most popular, it is not the official title of Michigan residents. I lived in MI for 10 years, but, thank God for deliverance.

Well said, netmilsmom!!! Thank you!!

PS: Actually, I prefer "Michigan Resident" (giggle) "Michigander" always sounds like some sort of bird to me.

I, too, hope to be in Troy. But, the last time I wanted to go to a FReeper event, family and job issues trumped that plan...

The Dems say Michiganian

http://www.micaucus.com/michigan_caucus/2006/12/from_wiki_michi.html

Not me!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michigander

Although I agree about being delivered from MI (a beautiful state to visit but I hate living here), insulting the crap out of fellow conservatives does none of us any good.

You may have moved, but right now, my house won’t sell and my hubby has a job. What am I supposed to do? Vote twice or three times?

It’s crass.
