SAN DIEGO — San Diego Chargers star outside linebacker Shawne Merriman was arrested Sunday and accused of choking and restraining his girlfriend, reality TV star Tila Tequila, as she tried to leave his suburban home.

Tequila, 27, signed a citizen's arrest warrant, charging Merriman with battery and false imprisonment, San Diego County Sheriff's Lt. Gary Steadman said.

Both are felonies.

His attorney said that Merriman was protecting her and stopping here from leaving because she was not in condition to drive.

I don’t think Tila is probably a very nice person to mess with.

Amazing. They hook up with a ghetto thug and wonder why they get their ass kicked.

We’d need a picture of her head from the back.

NFL athletes are nothing more than a bunch of overpaid gangsta thugs.

in the words of my eight-year old son, "that is a general statement."

“Tequila, whose real name is Tila Nguyen,”

>So true - she was in a mexican gang (she was confused, first thought she was black, then thought she was mexican)<

Poor baby, no wonder she’s a mite confused.

Over generalize much? First, you apply the label of felon to every player in the league. Then you say over 30% of the players are convicted felons. Then when you’re caught in the uncomfortable position of being not just wrong, but incredibly ignorant, you try to wiggle out with your “now I know that the NFL is full of boy scounts/s” nonsense.

The NFL is comprised of over 600 players, if you include paid practice squad players. MOST OF THEM ARE GOOD PEOPLE. There are the Mike Vick’s and the Pacman Jones’s in the group, but they are the exception to the rule. Most NFL players donate to charity. They sponsor football camps for inner-city youth. They visit sick kids and wounded soldiers in the hospital. They read and respond to fan mail. They stay after practice to sign autographs for little kids. There are many more “boy scouts” on NFL rosters than thugs.

You didn’t even bother reading Shawne Merriman’s account of what happened over the weekend. He was trying to do the right thing and prevent a drunk from driving. He has over 10 witnesses that back him up. But he’s a felon, right? Just because some MTV floozy says so. Apparently “innocent until proven guilty” doesn’t apply to NFL players.

Congratulations. You have proved to the entire forum you don’t know a d*mn thing about the article YOU posted.

That's 21% charged with a crime, not convicted. More than 11% of American men will actually serve time in prison over a lifetime.

That really doesn't seem all that disproportionate. Besides, in this case, the only evidence that Sawne Merriman committed a felony is the dispute word of a not-terribly-credible witness. One who, it should be noted, served a citizen's arrest warrant, because the police evidently saw no reason to charge him themselves.

That degree of partying is pretty surprising to me considering how disciplined a trainer Merriman is. I’ve always heard that that man lives in the gym. I can’t believe he even has the time.

That’s 21% only that have come to light.

I am sure the % is much higher.

There is actually about the same percentage of assholes among NFL players as among the general population. Check FR for proof

Where is the list and are you on it?

Red - hard to argue with your point. But, even bad boys can exercise common sense on occasion.

If a business employed a high percentage of felons, would you still shop there?

Straw man argument! I never said a "high percentage", I said whatever the percentage is in the general population.

Your attempt to insult me doesn't, I have had much more intelligent people than you try.

Based on what? Criminal charges are a matter of public record.
