Obama address to children: 'inartfully worded' plan or information operation?
The US Report ^ | 7 Sept 2009 | Chris Carter

Posted on 09/07/2009 9:12:45 AM PDT by Crush

School districts are feeling the backlash of a nationwide address to schools by President Barack Obama on Tuesday. Officials say the speech stresses the importance of “persisting and succeeding in school.” The address from the president, purportedly challenging students to “work hard, set educational goals, and take responsibility for their learning,” sounds harmless, but events surrounding the address – whether intended or not – have turned a message to children into a means to further divide the country and weaken political opponents.

A controversy may have been avoided if the White House had released a transcript of the president's address so parents and school districts could have made an informed decision as to whether to allow children to hear the message. Parents have the right to determine what their children watch on television, and who their children can talk to. School districts have the right to determine for themselves – based in part on input from the parents – what material will be covered in the classroom. When it isn't known what the message is – president or not – parents and school districts are well within reason to oppose such a message until more is known.

Despite the growing controversy, however, The White House has determined not to release a transcript until Monday evening – the night before the address.

Parents are also justified in their concern about the lesson plans distributed by the Department of Education (DOE) to accompany the address. One section read more like a call for children to carry out Obama's political agenda than urging them to finish their homework: stating that children should “Write letters to themselves about what they can do to help the president.”

But why would children need to “help the president” when the focus is supposedly on “persisting and succeeding...

“One section read more like a call for children to carry out Obama’s political agenda than urging them to finish their homework:”

That is the biggest problem in a nutshell. That leads to the trust issue and the motivation behind the work assignment. No, I do not trust him and that is why the continued uproar.

Considering Obama got to where he is by the color of his skin and refuses to make public his school records - he is not qualified to make such an address.

The speech itself will probably be 15 minutes of pabulum. Even the Kenyan wouldn't dare tout his fascist/Marxist programmes outright to students...not when every alternate media outlet is certain to be watching.

The dangerous bits are the 'lesson plans' and 'study materials' to be implemented by teachers after the fact. These are SO egregiously propagandistic that at least two of the original 'student projects' have been changed due to public outcry.

Writing a letter to oneself reminding oneself of 'ways to help the President'?? Naw, no propagandising there at all. Good grief!

Still working to remove or obfuscate connections of learning with "Dear Leader Obeyance", "Becoming part of Obama's Civilian Defense Force", "turning in your parents for wrongful thinking", "ratting out you classmates for speaking out against Dear Leader".. and so forth.

Actually part of his speech.

So today, I want to ask you, what’s your contribution going to be? What problems are you going to solve? What discoveries will you make?

Your birth certificate????

That would be a start. And your records from Occidental, Columbia, and Harvard Law, besides.

Have you seen the text of the speech? I haven't.

As expected, the speech is really quite excellent (http://www.whitehouse.gov/MediaResources/PreparedSchoolRemarks/). I never expected otherwise.

The question is, will the teachers go with the original lesson plan, or the revised one?

The WH is the most un-business-like ever. Everything is slapdash and backtracked. They can’t even keep their stories straight.

"Obama's address to our children will undoubtedly be the harmless and inspirational message that the White House claims. Because in doing so, the White House has smoked out members of the opposition – to include concerned parents – and with the help of the media, has belittled them in the process. Opponents to Obama's agenda have in effect hung themselves – and all the White House had to do was give them the rope."

This is an odd conclusion to draw. The resentful parents have not been defeated, though of course they've been belittled. Alienating more citizens hardly helps Obama. It shows how little trust remains out there for him personally. Smoking out opposition?

This writer ends up a good essay with a Wispy Conservative conclusion. He's embarrassed by the outcry over the speech.

I’m not embarrassed by the outcry, I am showing that this was a calculated move by the administration. Like Lincoln maneuvered the South into firing the first shots in the Civil War, Obama’s handlers have maneuvered parents into this position.

Given his high powered education he is surprisingly incoherent, bordering on illiterate, IMHO.
