Palin takes on AP (Dying Marine Photo)
The Charleston Daily Mail ^ | September 7, 2009 | Don Surber

Posted on 09/07/2009 12:23:08 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

I feel guilty because originally I supported the decision by the Associated Press to release the photo of the young Marine that was taken as he lay dying.

I lost readers over that and I do not blame them.

Sarah Palin weighed in on Facebook.

"Many of us join Secretary Gates in condemning the Associated Press for its heartless and selfish decision to turn its back on the wishes of a grieving family in order to exploit the tragic death of a true American hero.

Lance Corporal Joshua ‘Bernie’ Bernard was a selfless young American who sacrificed everything for our freedom.

Shame on the AP for purposely adding to the grieving family’s pain. Ignoring the family’s wishes by publishing a sacred image of their loved one proved a despicable and heartless act by the AP. The family said they didn’t want the photo published. AP, you did it anyway, and you know it was an evil thing to do.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Bernard family. Words can not adequately express our sorrow and appreciation for your sacrifice. We will never forget your Marine or his fallen comrades.

May God bless the Bernard family."

–Sarah Palin

AP surely posted pics of Obamas vacation and Ted Kennedy’s open casket ?

Doom on presstitutes !

Once again, Sarah hits the bullseye.

You can argue as to whether or not it would be appropriate to publish a photo of a wounded Marine.

But there’s no argument whatever about whether it’s right if the Marine’s family asks you not to, and then you do it anyway.

In many ways, AP is the worst of the bunch. They were the guys who used terrorists as stringers in Iraq.

As I said in another tread, these people do not publish photo’s of accident or murder victims. These is purely political to push their agenda. They could care less about the Marine’s family or friends. May he rest in Peace.

They will not be publishing pictures of the aftermath of the worse terrorist act on our soil on 9-11 , nor the graphic picture of what the terrorist have done and are still doing to our soldiers or civilians in the name of Allah.

The female AP photographer was obviously with the Marine unit when they were ambushed. One has to wonder if the photographer distracted the Marines at the crucial moment. Did she give away their position? Did her presence cause the Marines to be more concerned with protecting her than each other? Bottom line: WTF was she doing out there in the first place?

I'm willing to bet that the on-scene commander was in control of the situation. Had she been a threat to his men she wouldn't be there.

She's just doing her job. It's her editor's or higher up's decision to publish the photo.

There is not one thing in Afghanistan worth the horror of what is happening American youg men and women

There is something in America that is worth any price we can pay. Men and women volunteer to fight in Afghanistan because our freedom is worth defending against fanatical Islam. Or don't you agree?

There are plenty of bloody and awful photographs from 9/11. Those people died deaths as terrible as any of those on the battlefield. If you want to gaze hard upon the face of war then look at these pictures first.

Then go talk to your Hero Obummer. We honor the families of the fallen and ask that the deaths of their loved ones not be used for political purposes.

Unlike you we understand their loss, many of us have been there and understand their loved ones died because they were serving their country.

People such as yourself are leeches who feed off society and do not appreciate the Freedoms given to us. As for you using our military as a political wedge, you're disgusting.

We'll take America back, but people such as myself will not intrude on your Constitutional Rights as you do ours. If you don't like America leave, but the problem with people such as yourself is you're far too dependent on the government in order to leave. So my advice is, post on Huffpo from now on and leave us Freedom loving, Military supporting Americans alone.

The ravings of a libertarian knothead.

Guys like you and Mark Twain get all self-righteous about the "cost of war" as if there were no price to be paid for "no-war". Well, genius, why don't you just pull out your ouija board and ask all the hundred million people killed by international communism, or the 40 million killed by Nazism, what they think of your "no-price" pacifism?

Sometimes, Mr. Rogers, the bad guys come to see you. Just because. You saw the images of 9/11, and you know that is true of 9/11 and our war in Afghanistan.

You smear the policies of honest men by demeaning them with accusations that they are just the grasping of war profiteers, and the judgment of honest voters, and the memories of our dead.

I have family there. YOU have NO IDEA what we support, what we stand for or who we are. My family has a long line of men who have served this country.

Not one person in my family has ever been given a hand out from the government. It is your ilk that sucks the government dry and because you were drafted you seem to think we owe you something.

As for evil, I guess you are a 911 truther or either you have forgotten about 911. Either way, your words are impotent and you have no right to question military families.

You do not understand having honor or defending your country. I guess being a private in the military didn’t go over well for you. Well, the draft is over and the men and women who are serving decided to do so because they want to serve their country. Therefore, go whine somewhere else.

I worked in the news photo department of a major daily newspaper. The paper was very careful about publishing pictures taken at any sort of violent death or tragedy, including auto accidents. The photo editor at the time had a brother who drowned in a diving accident in the Gulf of Mexico. This was long before he worked for the paper or was photo editor. The paper published a picture of the body bag on a dock where it had been placed by the Coast Guard crew that had recovered it. His experience with seeing that photo, and the effect it had on his mother, made a huge difference in how he chose pictures to be used in the paper.

Most papers take the decision to publish or not to publish such photos very seriously. I’ve seen the photographer and the page designer almost come to blows over whether or not a photo should be used. Having been there and done that for years I can assure readers that those decisions are not made lightly, and it’s the exception not the rule when a paper publishes a distasteful picture.

It’s a tough call sometimes. The papers I’ve worked for chose to err on the side of not using a photo if ANYONE on staff had questions about it. The first line of defense is the shooter who can choose not to take pictures. That’s not really very likely though because pictures can often be a valuable tool in evaluating an event, even if they are never published. The next person is the photo editor, then the page designer then the section editor or the copy editor. It goes right up the line to the publisher.

If you’ve never been on the scene of an accident or other breaking news story and had to make the decision you really can’t appreciate just how troubling it can be.

I am not particularly a Palin fan but have to give her props for picking all the right issues and getting her message out in the last few weeks.

One of these weeks , she should do one of the Sunday talk shows. She has never had the confidence or ability to appear on one of those shows . . it is called swimming with the sharks.

When someone such as yourself wishes to use the death of a military person as a political statement, your true colors show. You're easy to size up because only a small minded person would be as disingenuous as you. Your disdain for the military shows in your post.

Amyone who declares a Jihad on America is my enemy. You do know what a Jihad is, don't you? As for the war, the war in Afghanistan was taken to the Terrorist. Most of all, since Obummer does not have a plan and wishes not to kill the Terrorist, the troops should be brought home. As my BIL stated the other day, they are in a ghithole and the only reason Obummer sent them there was for political reasons. This coming from someone who has served 20+ years in Special Forces.

As for your asinine remark concerning the Constitution, such a remark shows your ignorance. Most of all, are you an American Citizen? If so, do yourself a favor take some Political Science classes or better yet sit in some 11th & 12th grade government classes. Maybe that will help you understand what is written in the Constitution.

“One of these weeks , she should do one of the Sunday talk shows. She has never had the confidence or ability to appear on one of those shows . . it is called swimming with the sharks.”

Or maybe she just doesn’t think those shows are as important as you do. I have NEVER watched one - and if you look at the ratings, not a whole lot of other people do either. Just the elites who LOVE to hear themselves talk and impress each other.

How else do you explain the fact that Katie Couric has won FOUR, count ‘em, FOUR journalism awards in the last year - yet is last place in the ratings and is the least trusted news anchor in America?

These people in the media have a hyper-inflated opinion of their importance to the American people. BO made a mistake when he hitched his wagon to their star. Sure, they got him elected. But I think that was the last time the old media will have such an impact on a national election.

The Sunday morning shows started around 20 years ago and they’ll be gone within 5, I predict ...

I am not sure Palin would ever be able to go one-on-one with a David Gregory . . but I sure hope she would like to see her try.

The Federalist Papers were written by those who wished to get the Constitution ratified - John Jay, Alexander Hamilton, and the Father of the Constitution, James Madison.

Read the Anti-Federalist writings, they predicted we would have the government we have today.

As for promoting yourself, I’m not interested in Ron Paul and most Freepers don’t care for him and his anti-military rhetoric or his isolationist ideas.

Now move along, and fyi, I am having a wonderful evening.
