White House source: We never asked Van Jones to fill out the vetting questionnaire

I don’t believe them. Or rather, I don’t believe that this is some innocent blind spot in the vetting process.

An administration official said special advisers to the president, or czars, are not required to fill out the questionnaire that runs 7 pages and contains 63 questions.

The entire questionnaire, the official said, is reserved for appointees who must win Senate confirmation…

Question 61 reads as follows: “Have you had any association with any person, group or business venture that could be used - even unfairly - to impugn or attack your character and qualifications for government service?”…

An administration official said Jones never hid his controversial associations or remarks from the White House.

“It wouldn’t be fair to characterize him as being dishonest or hiding his comments or his positions,” the official said. “It’s just fair to say that he didn’t go through the most rigorous vetting process.”

I know there is precedent for Presidents to appoint these czars, but maybe it's time for this practice of filling the government with people who answer to the President alone to stop.

If the President wants to ask his own advisers about something, he should make sure they are not on our payroll, and that their visits to the White House are known to the American people.

Obama czardom is the deliberate end-run around transparency. Van Jones did not just accidentally slip through the cracks of the Obama vetters. They knew what he espoused before they installed him.

Take it from Obama’s own political godmother Michelle and Barack’s consigliere and Chicago powerbroker Valerie Jarrett took full credit at the nuttroots dKos blogger conference last month (August 15, 2009) for recruiting him and closely following his career:

Jarrett’s praise for Jones’s Oakland activism is explicit endorsement of his race-baiting career at Ella Baker, funded by the Soros-supported Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights/Ford Foundation/Rockefeller Foundation, and his Free Mumia agitation in the Bay Area schools — where he lambasted moderate civil rights leaders for objecting to politicizing the classrooms and where his pro-Mumia allies likened supporters of murdered police officer Daniel Faulkner to the KKK.

They knew EXACTLY who he is, and know these other Marxists they have surrounded themselves with, too. They have been chosen PRECISELY BECAUSE they are fellow travelers.

This is all very believable. Obama has not been able to attract much talent at any level. The primary problem is that EVERYBODY, including hard-core left Democrats, expect this guy to be, at most, a one-term President.

People don't take time-out from their careers with "government service" without some expectation of benefit downstream. One of the benefits is a FEDERAL RETIREMENT ANNUITY. Might not seem like much, but you only need 5 years to qualify for the minimum payment. Their present high salaries might look pretty puny down the road, but they'll still be considerably higher than the average federal worker at retirement which multiplied against a "high three" may be fair dinkum..

A one-term President will simply ruin your promotion opportunities every single time, so all you'll get out of these appointments is about 3.5 years service time. It takes another 1.5 years to get that 5, and your time working as an appointee in the FAILED OBAMA REGIME is not going to help you get a "better job" or an equal appointment in some hypothetical future Democrat Presidency.
