This is ACORN's idea of what health care reform should be. I can't think of anything else to say;/

Sure! Let uneducated, unexprienced locals, some of them on welfare all their lives, sit on the board of a multi million dollar business and make decisions. I once served on the board of a subsidized preschool program where parents were allowed input--unfreakinbelieveable! what they came up with--and were treated as though they were phds with valuable input just as a feel good experiment. It was effective in lifting egos, but unproductive as far as the program went, time consuming, and very boring. There must be a cheaper way to make unproductive people feel good than allowing them to play let's pretend in places where they are totally out of their depth.

In fact, I am thinking some of the above described people wrote this list of "I wants". The most pernicious requirement is "equal care for all. I think that means--"working stiffs needing heart by-pass, you cannot have it unless this illegal welfare recipient can get it, too. What? You can pay; they can't? Makes no difference. If all can't get it, it will not be offered."

But wait! They want to quit spending on high tech equipment, so heart surgery is out anyway.

One question--Where in all this remake of health care do alternative treatments stand? The govt. has been steadily squeezing out many proven alternative remedies.

They can’t have it both ways. Either the tape plays their voices or it’s faked.

You’ve stepped into a minefield when you kvetch about parents having influence at schools. I hope you realize that.

Incompetent document is offered by ACORN...assume Obama approves it.

Communist fantasy at its worst.

Just one comment about hospital structures and buildings: architects begin with govt. mandated rules of construction down to the fractions of an inch and choice of materials, etc. The high cost of hospitals and even private medical buildings arises as they must adhere to vastly costly govt. mandated building codes codes, even if they survive as proposed, the state and federal approval process is in itself prohibitory and unnecessarily costly. Non-medical staffing of hospitals is mostly concerned with govt. compliance issues and mandates, and is the major cost of administration.

The people ACORN serves and probably its members too, drive up the cost of living for working Americans.....everything from car insurance (they don’t buy it; sue alot), medicine (they don’t buy it; sue alot), home protection (alarm, guns etc), goods in stores (theft).

When will the American worker be reimbursed for working extra years of his life to pay for these parasites????????

I for one, am fed up with this underclass that I must pay for.

Screw them all.

I'm not talking about parents having influence in school, as in being heard and considered, interested and helpful. I am talking about them having slots on the actual board deciding personnel matters, spending, curriculum, etc.

As a teacher, I once had a conference with a parent whose child was flunking English-8th grade. He shrugged and said"I flunked English, and it ain't never hurt me none." This parent should sit on the decision making board? LOL

<WHAT EXACTLY DO THESE “low- and moderate-income members of the community” CONTRIBUTE TO SOCIETY?????

Not much. I remember decades ago when the ‘community’ was invited to participate more in school planning. I remember my mother talking about people with no college, no training, no knowledge of history, administration, whatever, trying to tell the schools what to do.

I know a lot of FReepers dislike teachers and public schools, and god knows you don’t need a college degree to have an opinion about education, but there’s a difference between an opinion and an educated opinion.

Same thing for sitting on hospital boards. I do not want the great unwashed (yeah, call me a snob, that’s fine) in control of institutions that require licensing, high levels of education, training, and accreditation.

<a. Require doctors - whose education is subsidized by the federal government - to work for three years in an area where there is a shortage of personnel.

Didn’t the Chinese do something similar by forcing all the educated people out to the rice paddies for a few years?

Permit doctors and dentists to advertise prices and require price posting.

Now, that's not a half bad idea. The rest of it is rubbish

[Force hospitals to concentrate on providing basic quality care instead of wasting huge sums on showcase buildings and technological gadgets.]

Perhaps some empty crack housing in the barrio can be converted.

c. Prohibit discrimination by health insurance companies on the basis of race, sex, geography, income, age, or health status.

Hey, you forgot "sexual orientation!"

Don’t laugh. He’s probably already President of the Board of his community organization and getting several hundred million of the stimulus money without strings.

This should be taken all the way to the Supreme Court, if necessary.

Those people filmed were representing ACORN, a tax-funded enterprise, not private individuals. We should be able expose misuse of our tax dollars without fear of going to jail!
