Congress, Obama team up to kill marriage protections

Nearly 100 members of the U.S. House are working in lockstep with the Obama administration to try to eliminate protections for traditional marriage in the United States with the "Respect for Marriage Act" that has just been introduced in Congress.

H.R. 3567 was introduced just days ago by U.S. Rep. Jerrold Nadler, D-New York, and more than 90 co-sponsors.

"This legislation would repeal the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), a 1996 law which discriminates against lawfully married same-sex couples," Nadler said in a statement on his website. The proposal has been assigned to committee.

"The 13-year-old DOMA singles out legally married same-sex couples for discriminatory treatment under federal law, selectively denying them critical federal responsibilities and rights, including programs like social security that are intended to ensure the stability and security of American families," his statement continued.

"The introduction of the Respect for Marriage Act responds directly to a call from President Obama for congressional action on the issue. As the president recently confirmed: 'I stand by my long-standing commitment to work with Congress to repeal the so-called Defense of Marriage Act. It's discriminatory, it interferes with states' rights, and it's time we overturned it," the statement said.

Except for a few deep-blue states, they're NOT "lawfully married."

Whatever happened to 0bama’s assertion that he believed marriage was to be between one man and one woman? Oh, yeah... that was just a campaign statement. It’s expired now.

Obama is losing gay support, and, most importantly, gay fundraising (which is disproportionally large) due to the failure of repeal of 'don't ask, don't tell'

This is a bone they hope to sneak through while nobody is looking.

So now he’s worried about State’s rights? Maybe we should review Roe vs. Wade.

Marriage is a sacred institution blessed by the church and only between a man and a woman. No ifs, ands or butts.

...it interferes with states' rights,...

How does forcing a state to recognize gay "marriage" protect states rights?

Hey Nadler! According to your interpretation, this means that New York State should honor my Florida Concealed Carry Weapons permit. States Rights, according to your argument!

Bwaahahahah!

LOL! Never thought of it that way.

This is not news I wanted to read on a Sunday morning. This Administration and the liberals in Congress are the best sleight-of-handers I've ever seen. While the country is in a tizzy over health care and energy, they're federalizing college student loans and deconstructing the sacred institution of marriage. I'm sick, simply sick. Who will stand up anymore, folks? Who is going to put his or her life on the line to stand up to these Marxists? This no longer about words. Forceful acceptance of the liberal social mores are becoming a reality. This is a war of attrition and THEY'RE WINNING!

The Constitution is NOT negotiable!

How do you explain that you continuously fail to understand this is a Conservative website and that there is has been a growing fundamental difference between Republicanism and Conservatism over the years because the former has incrementally moved towards socialism to expand its voter base?

It's up to the OP wing of the socialist Republicrat party if they want to return to the Conservative fold but I'm not joining them to try and convince them.

Over turning it is one thing since Article 1 Section 8 does not grant Congress the power to regulate marriage but replacing it with another piece of federal legislation only defeats the very purpose Nadler claims he is trying to support. It couldn't be more disingenuous.

I challenge you to position yourself coward!

Ding, Ding, Ding. We have a winner! This is spot on. If these crumbs had any respect for marriage they wouldn't be trying to protect every lessie, pervert, trannie, fornicator, or social malcontent that ever took a breath. All I'm waiting for is for “Baghdad Bob” Gibbs to explain that this is all for the good of the economy!
