Hummer LLC plans to locate its new headquarters in Michigan once General Motors Co.'s sale of the sport-utility vehicle maker to China's Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery is finalized, Hummer spokesman Nick Richards said.
The new headquarters, expected to be located at a refurbished site in either Detroit or a northern suburb of the city, promises to provide a modest lift to a Michigan economy that has been battered by the rapid decline of the U.S. auto industry and other economic pressures. The region has lost tens of thousands of white- and blue-collar automotive jobs in the past year due to drastic restructuring measures at car companies and their parts suppliers.
Hummer also considered sites in Tennessee and South Carolina, but Michigan pushed hard to keep Hummer in the state as part of its drive to remain at the center of the global auto industry.
Hummer says it plans to create 300 jobs at the site, including employees working on design, marketing, engineering and distribution. An additional 600 jobs could be created in the surrounding parts-supply, contract-engineering and other industries, according to State of Michigan estimates.
Because Hummer has been run from Detroit as a division of GM, the brand has had very few employees exclusively devoted to running it. Many of its employees have transferred from assignment to assignment within the GM universe, spending stints at Hummer in addition to other GM brands.

The Chinese bought Hummer solely to tap into the distribution network for the coming onslaught of Chinese cars.
Thats just great-—the Federal Govt. CAFE standards coupled with the leeches at UAW decimate the domestic auto industry and here the CHinese not only own the gas guzzling carbon producing Hummers but in GM’s and Chryslers back yard.

Beijing appears to be having second thoughts about making China the new home for gas-guzzling Hummers.
After winning an auction to acquire Hummer and its tooling gear from General Motors' bankruptcy sale three months ago, a Chinese heavy equipment maker has hit a roadblock with its own regulators to set up Hummer's new base on the mainland.
China's Commerce Ministry kicked back for further review an application to approve the Hummer sale to Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery for about $100 million. "It's not in coordination with our nation's industrial policy," said Vice Minister of Commerce Chen Jian, without elaborating. China already has nearly three dozen domestic automakers.

Shanghai, September 16 (Gasgoo.com) China's Ministry of Commerce said yesterday that it has not received any application from Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery Co. to bid for General Motors' Hummer brand, xinhuanet.com reported.
Ministry spokesman Yao Jian made the remarks in response to recent media reports that Tengzhong's application to buy Hummer was turned down by the commerce ministry. As far as he knew, Yao said, the provincial government of Sichuan, in which Tengzhong is located, had submitted applications to other government bodies but not to Commerce.
Sources with the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), China's top economic planner, told Xinhua on Aug. 24 it was beyond their job scope to ratify Tengzhong's Hummer deal as the application said Tengzhong only planned to buy Hummer's brand instead of assets or shares.
This will last 1 year - 2 years tops in Michigan. The PRC/CCP will relocate to a more labor friendly (read - cheaper) area ASAP. Also, don’t look for any “Union Labels” in this deal.
Eventual relocation to the Mainland or Viet Nam will probably occur within 10 years if they continue the marque. Petrol costs will be the deciding factor...IMO.

Two more great reasons I wont buy a Hummer. First I would never buy a car from a company owned by the Chinese. And number two I would never buy a car built in Michigan. Especially if it came out of Detroit.

Makes you wonder if the Chinese intend to sell civilian humvees or army humvees.
