SC 2010: Inglis breaks from the pack [backs cap-and-tax, attacks Beck] [Graham endorses] [RINO?]

WASHINGTON - U.S. Rep. Bob Inglis is paying the price for independent thinking.

Inglis, a Travelers Rest Republican, might have been the only Republican lawmaker in the country booed lustily by his own constituents at town hall meetings last month.

Inglis was shouted down when he asked listeners why they're afraid of President Barack Obama - and then suggested they stop watching conservative TV commentator Glenn Beck.

"He's trading on fear," Inglis advised one group, setting off loud catcalls.

Despite a broadly conservative voting record, Inglis has angered many GOP activists with his contrarian stands on a handful of high-profile issues.

In February 2007, Inglis was one of 17 Republican House members who voted against President George W. Bush's troop surge in Iraq - a stance, Inglis now says, proven wrong by subsequent progress.

Inglis also opposed warrantless criminal searches and cast a decisive committee vote against a measure protecting the phrase "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance.

More recently, Inglis has been one of a few GOP lawmakers to view global warming as a crisis, introducing a bill that would tax carbon emissions.

Now, Inglis further has incited some Upstate activists with his vote to punish fellow South Carolinian and Republican U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson for yelling "You lie!" at Obama during an address to Congress.

Inglis joined just six other Republican House members in supporting the Sept. 15 "resolution of disapproval" against Wilson, backed by nearly all House Democrats.

. . . . .

Among the S.C. congressional delegation's five other GOP members, U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham is the only one willing to endorse Inglis at this point. Graham's leadership PAC already has given Inglis $2,500 in campaign contributions.

Inglis certainly is susceptible to Leftist propaganda. Why is he a Republican, again?

What about his constituents? They seem more like yankees from the People's Republic of New York.

And reduce the number of lawyers in Congress and the administration. Way too many of them.

JIM LEE, from Mauldin, SC. will be running against him and state Senator, Dave THomas.

Inglis and Thomas are both RINO’s in my opinion. Jim Lee is a 100% Limited Government Conservative.

I will be supporting his campaign 100%

Remember, JIM LEE for Congress in 2010!!!!

I went to his campaign Web site at

http://www.jimleeforcongress.com/

and read his statements on the issues.

Even though I lean heavily libertarian, he sounds like a perfectly fine candidate to me.

I never wrote this up but in his last townhall, at Wade Hampton High School, instead of going after Beck, he went after Pat Buchanan and accused those who don’t believe in his health care proposals of wanting people to “bleed to death on the hospital steps.”

This is truly bizarre behavior we are seeing from him, i.e. voting against the surge, voting for TARP, voting against Joe Wilson, etc. etc.

I think we are witnessing another SC politician go through a mid-life crisis.

Bob must’ve served enough time to cash in on the congressional retirement plan plus free health care. Now he can vote like the liberal lawyer he has always been.
