14 Year Old British Girl Dies after HPV Vaccination

COVENTRY, UK, September 29, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Natalie Morton, a 14-year-old girl who attended the Blue Coat Church of England School in Coventry, died today, hours after being given Cervarix - the controversial cervical cancer vaccine manufactured for the UK market by Glaxo SmithKline.

Natalie was injected with the vaccine as part of the UK National Health Service's (NHS) immunization program directed at teenage girls with the purpose of protecting them against strains of the human papillomavirus (HPV), which is a sexually transmitted disease.

The NHS started the HPV vaccination program in April last year and has recorded 2,137 reports of adverse effects following the injection.

Health officials said today they are not sure whether Natalie had an extreme reaction to a standard vaccine, or whether the particular dose she was given was from a "rogue contaminated batch."

Either situation raises serious questions about the safety of the vaccine.

Dr. Caron Grainger, director for public health at Coventry city council, said an autopsy will be conducted to investigate if the vaccine played a role in Natalie's death.

"No link can be made between the death and the vaccine until all the facts are known and a post-mortem takes place," Grainger told the UK Daily Mail.

Mike Attwood, a spokesman for Coventry Primary Care Trust said: "An urgent investigation has been launched and while we wait for the results from the post mortem all vaccinations using the drug have been temporarily stopped."

The National Vaccine Information Centre (NVC), a private vaccine-safety group based in the US, reported that from 2006 as many as 11,900 girls and young women had reported adverse events after receiving the Gardasil vaccine, which is manufactured by Merck Pharmaceutical for use in the US and Canada.

These adverse events included such mild reactions as pain, fever, nausea, dizziness and itching, to serious effects such as Bells Palsy, Guillain-Barre Syndrome, and seizures. The number of deaths associated with the Gardasil vaccine by the NVC is between 32 and 45 in the US alone.

The previous thread on this story noted there had been 1.5 million injections of this drug, and was projected to reduce death by cervical cancer by 700 per year. Twelve dead per year, versus up to 700 saved per year is bad math ? I’m unaware of any mass inoculation program that doesn’t have adverse side effects in some small % of patients. How does that invalidate the program? Applying a 100% safe standard would shut down medicine altogether.

Agreed, but it takes two to have sex. You can never know if your partner is telling the truth about being celibate. Now, with Polio, you could avoid ALL people and that is also a lifestyle choice.

I am neither pro or anti HPV vaccine. I have no kids and could care less what you do with yours. ( within reason) I just wanted folks reading this to have some historical context.

Exactly. Correlation is not causation. It's really jumping the gun to assume the vaccine had anything to do with the death at this point.

Actually, that is not the case at all, unless the girl becomes a nun and remains celibate her whole life. Even then, she could be raped and still get the virus. Furthermore, no woman has any control over what the man in her life did before he met her.

P.S. There are people getting paralytic polio RIGHT NOW because of the oral polio vaccine. Vaccine strains of polio are causing hundreds of people to get sick in some parts of Africa. From the evidence, I'd say that the polio vaccine is far more dangerous than the HPV vaccine.

Poor girl. I'm sorry to hear this. What a shame to see a young girl die so soon, well before her time.

We always focus on the one who dies, but not the ones who are saved. If a vaccine kills five people but saves 5000, the news stories are about the five. To some degree, I understand this because we want to get the deaths to zero, but society has made more bad decisions because we focus on the Type I errors and not the Type II (a little statistics lingo). For instance, we have, say, 1000 people who could be saved by an experimental drug, but because it might kill 100, the FDA waits on the tests (though this has been fixed to some degree).

People here are saying that HPV infection is 100% preventable with morally good choices. If we assume this means no sex before marriage, well, it's close to true. However, I don't care how much you educate a girl, odds are greatly on the side that she will have sex before marriage and she will trust the guy she is with (who may not even know he is a carrier). This isn't a moral statement, but a statistical one. If I put my bet on morality or the vaccine, I'd take the vaccine any day because it's not as fallible as people.

Given what is already known about the dangers of mercury, squalene, and allergic reactions to these, you would have to ask why such people would persist in the lies that these are "perfectly safe." As one physician lied on 60 Minutes not too long ago. Was he just stupid, driven by greed & profit as a stockholder, or eager to make people sick? Anyone who studies immunology and vaccines knows there are dangers of adverse reactions and neurological problems. The insert for the flu shot even warns about Guillain-Barré Syndrome. And there are egg allergies. It would be worthy of malpractice not to warn patients about this and ask them if there is any history of allergies or autoimmune disorders in their family. Mercury causes brain and nerve damage. There is no "safe" level to inject into a human being. So why would anyone who has taken the Hippocratic Oath do this? And then lie about it?
