Elizabeth Smart Says She Was Raped Daily

Elizabeth Smart, right, arrives at the federal courthouse with her mother, Lois Smart, and her father [Pic in URL]

By JENNIFER DOBNER SALT LAKE CITY – Elizabeth Smart testified Thursday she was raped repeatedly each day after she was abducted from her bedroom seven years ago and told she would be killed if she yelled or tried to escape.

She described Brian David Mitchell, her alleged kidnapper, as "evil, wicked, manipulative, stinky, slimy, selfish, not spiritual, not religious, not close to God."

Smart testified in U.S. District Court in Salt Lake City as part of a competency proceeding for the man charged in her 2002 kidnapping.

Mitchell has twice been found incompetent for trial in state court. Mitchell and his estranged wife were found with Smart nine months after she disappeared from her Salt Lake City home.

A judge ruled earlier this week that testimony from Smart, now 21, is relevant to the mental competency of Mitchell, who was removed from the courtroom before Smart arrived and taken to a holding cell where he could listen to the proceedings.

Smart was poised and composed while testifying for just under two hours.

By actual definition, anyone who would performs and assists crimes like this is “insane” - not normal.

They still should be executed. Execution is way under-used.

This animal should be castrated. In public. One slice an hour, every hour. With a dull butter knife.

Preceded by a Roman pre-crucifixion scourging followed by a salt water washdown.

I'd make that a hydrofluoric acid washdown. Salt water is for when you want the wounds to heal.

What should justice look like? What I imagined her life to be like was bad enough, but when I hear what Brian David Mitchell actually did I realize the need for cruel and unusual punishment.

Instead, perhaps they will go to prison. And perhaps there Mitchell and his wife will be fed a daily diet of fear and pain for the rest of their unnatural lives.

I agree with you except that drowning them is mean. Just shoot them first, two in the heart, one in the head. I have always thought that insanity should not be an excuse. There are lots of crazy people out there who don’t commit these sorts of crimes. And as GS pointed out, sociopaths are quite capable of faking mental illness when it suits them.

I don’t care if a person was drunk, they still did the crime and should be responsible for it.

I just thank God she didn’t get pregnant. Could you imagine that on top of it?

I’m unclear how you can draw such a conclusion from my post.

I was merely making two accurate comments.

1. If you reject the idea of a God who stands above all human opinion and decides right and wrong, there is no logical basis for claiming that any action is always right or wrong. In such a case society might indeed decide rape of children is”okay if enough perverts are in charge.”

If morality is decided by voting, what other conclusion could one come to?

In case I’m not being clear enough, I believe in such a God and the morality he pronounces on.

2. Historically, captive women have always been legally subject to rape and slavery. AFAIK, the only exception is Western Civilization in the last few hundred years. In most of the world today, especially those areas least influenced by evil western civ, it continues today. The pantywaists obsessing over the “rape crisis” in Darfur are apparently unaware this is standard practice for the area. Nothing new at all. Apparently the pantywaists are unaware they’re trying to impose their own cultural values on the indigenous peoples.

I did not say that I approve of such activity. In fact, if they need a volunteer to push the button on this guy, I’ll gladly fly to SLC on my own nickel. My younger daughter is almost exactly Elizabeth’s age. I remember being so angry when she was taken that I couldn’t see straight.

I think it is instructive and relevant to point out that the morality we too often take for granted is by no means something that is inherent in human nature. It’s something that has to be fought for and once won defended.

Interesting. The rapist and wife have the same evil, cold dead eyes.

Grind the bastards into hamburger meat and feed them to the alligators in Florida. They aren’t worth any more than that.
