450 Mayors Petition Obama To Adopt Broad Gun Reform
The Washington Post ^ | October 3, 2009 | David S. Fallis

Posted on 10/02/2009 7:54:07 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

A new report from a national coalition of mayors urges President Obama to adopt dozens of reforms to help curb gun violence, including steps to crack down on problems at gun shows and the creation of a federal interstate firearms trafficking unit.

The "Blueprint for Federal Action on Illegal Guns," a copy of which was obtained by The Washington Post, presents 40 recommendations that "would dramatically improve law enforcement's ability to keep guns out of the hands of criminals -- and, in doing so, save innocent lives."

The strategies outlined by the Mayors Against Illegal Guns, a bipartisan group of about 450 mayors nationwide, focus on the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The agency, which has been sent a copy of the report, declined to comment.

--snip--

ATF agents should have greater discretion to conduct criminal investigations at gun shows identified as sources of firearms later seized in crimes, the report states, noting that "criminal activity endemic to some gun shows goes unchecked."(continued)

I prefer “From my cold, dead hands,” but that one is good too.

If we set a minimum IQ requirement we could take care of that.

Interesting.

My home state of California has 29 Mayors who signed onto this gun-grabbing petition, while my adopted state of Texas has just 1.

Pretty revealing, eh?

As far as I can tell all the Georgia mayors
are democrats.

The list of MN mayors is not the least bit shocking. All 5 need to lose their jobs!

“ATF agents should have greater discretion to conduct criminal investigations at gun shows”

I don’t think so.

Good to see no San Luis Obispo county towns on there. Take that SLO.

Answers.com says there are one thousand (1,000) cities in towns in Texas.

There is only one (1) Texas mayor on this tyrannical committee:

Texas: Mayor Richard Ward, Hurst, TX

There is a very good chance that -- once the news gets out he's stupid enough to be on this committee -- that he won't be in office much longer...

And I bet every one of them either carries or has security that does.

In my previous post I said:

My home state of California has 29 Mayors who signed onto this gun-grabbing petition, while my adopted state of Texas has just 1.

Looking at this a little closer, I realized that California has three times the population that Texas does.

So, dividing by three to get some idea of the per capita response among mayors between the two states, we see that it works out to an almost 10 to 1 ratio for gun-grabbing in California.

That's an amazing cultural difference.

Judging by my state (NY), the cities listed have large minority populations and are constantly in the news for shootings. I cant believe these mayors think gun control of any kind will stop this. These people arent using guns bought on the street..which will STILL be there no matter how they want to control guns.

They should concentrate on these people and those guns, instead!!

The crime rate for gun incidents is out of sight in all those cities that are run by Democrats. Mex Mafia Gang Bangers and Crip/Blood Gangs dominate in them. Many are “Sanctuary Cities” or governed by uber-liberals.

A recent series of LEO operations showed that the majority of firearms collected were stolen or strawman purchases.

The Mayors need to realize that their Saviour (Obama) has lost his magic and that they should just shut up on the subject of firearms if they want to live past next week.

We can thank that little bast*rd from New York for this. He has made it his personal crusade to get rid of all guns in America by signing all of these mayors on to his dream!!

Everyone needs to find out if their mayor is on this list and get a bunch of gun owners to protest against him. I read where a bunch of people did that to their mayor and the next day he dropped out of Bloomberg's group and put an ad in the paper apologizing to the people in his city!

You just have to wonder about a Texas mayor who signs on to something like this. What the heck was he thinking?
