"He's a rum dog. Don't he look fierce at any strange cove that laughs or sings when he's in company!" pursued the Dodger. "Won't he growl at all, when he hears a fiddle playing! And don't he hate other dogs as ain't of his breed! Oh, no!"

"He's an out-and-out Christian," said Charley.

This was merely intended as a tribute to the animal's abilities, but it was an appropriate remark in another sense, if Master Bates had only known it; for there are a good many ladies and gentlemen, claiming to be out-and-out Christians, between whom, and Mr. Sikes' dog, there exist strong and singular points of resemblance. – Dickens, Oliver Twist

Well, that is a dilemma for you to figure out.
I will go right along enjoying the fellowship on my fine Christian Catholic friends.
You are like the Pharasees of the Bible, getting all upset because Jesus was willing to have fellowship with those who the Pharisees considered inferior.

It isn’t a dilemma for me, I’m not Mormon but I will continue to be friends and good company with them.

If the Mormon/Christian question comes up with your Catholic friends don’t remain silent, be honest and tell them what the official position of their church and their Pope is.

Staying right now out of the Mormon vs. Christian arguement, did anyone else have my reaction to this? I’ve no doubt she was terribly mistreated, but I’m surprised she didn’t get pregnant. A girl of that age who has sex at least once daily for a year usually does, I would think.

There are lots of infertile women, of which she may be one, but many of those get pregnant and miscarry. In other words, I have a feeling there is more to this story.

Although, when I think about it, it really is none of my business. As long as the man is put away, which there seems to be a problem with doing.

For me it had nothing to do with faith. The article is reporting a terrible crime and it’s just impossible for me not to connect this terrible crime with the one that whoopi goldberg and other hollywood types would justify in order to save polanski from justice.

Ok, I was speaking rather vaguely in regards to the exact entity, but my overall point still stands.

That's a damn good point. She was roughly the same age as Polanski's victim too. If Hollywood justifies Polanski but not this creep, then they have committed themselves to an elitism and double standard for their own.

What am I talking about? This is a foregone conclusion to the entire Polanski debacle. We all know this!

Take care.

The headline reflects and promotes the mindset that every preacher of the Bible, no matter what sort, is a likely demon of danger driven to mayhem by a “fundie” reading of the Bible and repressed impulses. Dawkins would be proud.

comments on the page are right.

“It’s just wrong to refer to this abductor and molestor as “a preacher”. He was a transient due to obvious mental and moral (and spiritual) sickness and he had no following other than the voices in his own head.”

“An heiress to what?”

welcome to UK dumbass media templates.

My hubby said he read that the raping occurred in the back door...a la Polanski.

Funny how quickly this article turned into bickering about religion.

Now that the anti-all religion speak has had their say, Maybe this is a great example of how the Christ was never supposed to be a religion. This was the completion of religions but, oh no, TPTB had to make a religion out of this too.

It was/is about a direct communion with God through a Door that has been established. No rituals, no routines, no anything. Behaviors normally associated with religions become established because of the Presence not are performed hoping to introduce the Presence.

All religions can provide the chains of getting rapped up in the process of the religion to obtain possession of the Door and communion so much that no one is moving toward obtaining possession of the Door and communion.

I think that any religion that believes Christ is the son of God is a Christian religion. It’s not complicated.

A bit of a slur to call him a “preacher”. He was a mentally disturbed and criminally inclined pervert who never had a church, flock, etc.

If he had claimed to be an astronaut, would they headlined the story with “raped by astronaut”? Of course not.

Yes it's funny, but not at all surprising.

That perverted freak who tortured that strong girl has nothing to do with religion.

The pope doesn’t like Mormans and you’re not a Christian and blah blah blah.

>> I have a feeling there is more to this story <<

Agreed. For example, how many ill-nourished, out-of-shape 55-year-old men can “do it” four times a day? In other words, this so-called preacher doesn’t exactly have the physique of a young and virile Strom-Thurmond-wannabe.

As Catholics, we are allowed to judge institutions such as the Mormon faith.

Makes me think of several passages...

1 Timothy 4:1 But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons,
4:2 by means of the hypocrisy of liars seared in their own conscience as with a branding iron,
4:3 men who forbid marriage and advocate abstaining from foods, which God has created to be gratefully shared in by those who believe and know the truth.

1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,

Romans 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,

2 Timothy 2:25 with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition, if perhaps God may grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth,

Psalms 119:160 The sum of Thy word is truth, And every one of Thy righteous ordinances is everlasting.

The truth is in the Word of God and available to everyone to read. Many times on FR, it seems to be analagous to a Shiite and a Sunni arguing over which one of them is following the correct religious path.
