Sarah Palin's Memoir Ready for Christmas Book Market

Fans and foes alike are hoping for surprises in Sarah Palin's memoir, Going Rogue: An American Life, which leapfrogged Dan Brown and Glenn Beck to the top of the Amazon.com bestseller last week before even being published.

But with a few weeks to go until the book hits shelves on Nov. 17, the biggest shocker so far is the sheer speed with which she wrote it. The former Alaska governor penned the 400-page tome in just four months, finishing well before the planned spring release date. So how the heck did she do it?

Palin's publisher says the answer is simple: hard work. "When she resigned as governor, she had a lot more time and was able to really devote herself full-time to writing the book," says Tina Andreadis, a spokesperson for HarperCollins. "That's really all that there is." (See pictures of Sarah Palin.)

Well, there's also this: Palin had help. Editorial sidekicks are par for the course in political memoirs, though ghostwriters say many pols are heavily involved in the writing process. Palin's assist came from Lynn Vincent, a writer for the Christian news magazine WORLD, who has also co-authored several other books.

The answer for the speedy writing is that the bulk of the material was already there. Palin kept journals throughout the Campaign and before, and thus had the raw material for the book already prepared.

Sarah is also a journalism major. No doubt she learned something about reading and writing over the years.

We may also safely presume that she did not receive assistance from a mad bomber (as did Obama when he hired on Bill Ayers to write his fictitious autobiography).

Right. When Time reports that Comrade Ayers wrote Comrade Obamsky’s “autobiography” I’ll think about whether I care what Time says about ANYthing. In the meantime, it’s happened yet again. The MSM mentioned “Sarah Palin” and I could not help but wonder—”Is it already 2012?”

Gee, I write MOST of my books in 4-5 months---the exception being "Patriot's History," which was a 10-year labor of love, but off and on.

And I do that while teaching full time. I do not find it unusual for someone to write a memoir in a short time, esp. if you get a big advance and can hire researchers to track down dates and copy documents for you and your ghostwriter.

What is this “Time Magazine?” Is it some kind of news magazine? I read the article and it did not impress me. Perhaps the people or person who does this “Time” thing should check out the internet. There are some really informative blogs out there. Hang in there “Time.” Maybe one day you will be recognized as a real news source.

I just finished writing a 300 page book in 3 months. It involved a lot of research as well.

So 400 pages in 4 months seems easy.

You can tell whether you’re reading a liberal or conservative article about Going Rogue quite easily. Articles by liberals call Lynn Vincent a “Ghostwriter” while those by conservatives call her a “Collaborator.”

Notice also how the liberal author of the Time piece “reveals” the well-known fact that Vincent was collaborating with Palin and then goes on, without supplying any evidence, to imply that Vincent essentially wrote the entire book herself. If true, you’d think a “news” magazine would at least provide a shred of evidence. They don’t because she didn’t, I suspect.

Not in the ame leauge, but there are authors who know out a book every 6 weeks or so, Check the Harleguin Romance (wife loves em) series. SOme of those women crank out a title a month.
200 page 55000 words. In between jobs I can knock that out in two weeks - then the editing starts....

I just wrote my complete biography in 7 seconds. “I was born, I lived, and I died”. I don’t anticipate it being a big seller or ever making the Times #1 book list.
