How Israel Was Disarmed
The Wall Street Journal Online ^ | 10/5/09 | Bret Stephens

Posted on 10/07/2009 1:31:14 PM PDT by Joya

Jan. 20, 2010 When American diplomats sat down for the first in a series of face-to-face talks with their Iranian counterparts last October in Geneva, few would have predicted that what began as a negotiation over Tehran's nuclear programs would wind up in a stunning demand by the Security Council that Israel give up its atomic weapons. Yet that's just what the U.N. body did this morning, in a resolution that was as striking for the way member states voted as it was for its substance. All 10 nonpermanent members voted for the resolution, along with permanent members Russia, China and the United Kingdom. France and the United States abstained. By U.N. rules, that means the resolution passes.

The U.S. abstention is sending shock waves through the international community, which has long been accustomed to the U.S. acting as Israel's de facto protector on the Council. It also appears to reverse a decades-old understanding between Washington and Tel Aviv that the U.S. would acquiesce in Israel's nuclear arsenal as long as that arsenal remained undeclared.

All, thank you for your feedback on the Rosenberg thread. Here’s the WSJ online article Joel mentions, which I was able to put in News/Activism.

Pinging those interested in Israel, please ping anyone *you* know who would be interested.

How can we get news from a future date? Perhaps my brain cells are a little frazzled. Please help me out.

Well, I warned my liberal Jewsih acquaintances Obama was no friend to Israel, but they loved liberalism more than Israel, or America.

sorry for Israel, of course, and America, but it serves the jewish-american community right.

So, let me get this straight. This is a warning of what MAY happen in the future rather than a real news item?

This could easily force Israel to bomb Iran.

This is biblical...

Fiction is often interesting, but this is more phantasy.

The author evidently did not understand “Never Again” and how much the Israelis mean it.

it serves the jewish-american community right.

Some people have an allegiance to nothing but money. It will be interesting to see if Israel capitulates. I say they will not.
