DAVID LETTERMAN NOT TELLING THE WHOLE TRUTH (New twist - Why a Check?)
National Enquirer ^ | Staff

Posted on 10/08/2009 11:26:26 AM PDT by canuck_conservative

The lawyer for Robert Joe Haldeman, the blackmailer accusing of extorting David Letterman says the gap toothed funny man's not telling the full story!

"Here's a guy who is an Emmy Award winning journalist, who has dealt with cops and wiretaps and undercover investigations virtually his entire life," Haldeman's defense attorney Gerald Shargel said today.

Shargel alleged that Letterman wasn't telling the whole story in last week's confessional that he was being blackmailed.

Cops say 48 Hours Mystery producer Haldeman offered to "sell" Letterman a "screenplay treatment" about the comedian's affairs with Late Show staffers including Dave and Haldeman ex Stephanie Birkitt.

In a sting operation, Halderman was busted depositing a check "designed to bounce" at his local bank, prosecutors said.

"There was a $2 million check," Shargel explained further.

"In the history of extortion, I don't think there's been a single case where the alleged extortionist took a check in payment.

"It just doesn't make any sense."

The police had Letterman’s attorney meet one more time (before the check was handed over), specifically for the purpose of getting Haldeman to say that he knew this was illegal, and was backmail, and reportedly Haldeman said, yes, he understood. This is supposedly on tape.

Sounds like Haldeman wasn't the sharpest knife in the drawer.

I guess he was used to his targets "confessing" on camera, and thought it was OK.

I don’t know if that would fly (extortion) if the so-called screenplay used purely fictional names, etc. ??

Yea, intentional blackmailing with a paper trail would be rather foolish.

I think old Dave’s been less than forthcoming, well at least about the details of this whole thing, not with his interns.

He’s been running around on her for years, while they may only have married in march, they have been together for 23+ years.. and he’s been running around on her the whole time.... I’m going to enjoy watching her drag him through the courts.

Very interesting...

If so then Dave at least got a leg up on him and had the bastard thrown in jail.

I think all the players are disgusting but for different reasons — Letterman, Halderman, Birkitt, even the wife of Letterman, what’s her name.

All have long histories of foolishness and why on earth did that ‘wife’ of Letterman’s stick with him all those years? She had to know he was cheating on her over the years.

Only after the child was a few years old did Letterman FINALLY marry the mother, who probably had the kid just to try to bag Letterman in the first place.

Given what we now know about all of their histories, I’d say they should all be thrown into a pit together — who cares about any of them? The country is going to hell in a handbasket and THIS is on the news every night? The only innocent left to feel sorry for is the boy, Harry. He should be placed in protective custody.

More monologue (Dave should hire me):

I know it’s shocking to find out I’m just another Hollywood jerk schtupping the hired help but you sort of knew all along. The real story here is here is that I’m not gay.

Did you here about that creepy wierdo who kidnapped and raped Pamela Smart. I thank God every day that I have a steady supply of willing young women.

The other day my wife asked me why I chose some low-level staffer over her. I had to admit they were both equally good at fetching my laundry.

My biggest fear is that my son Harry will think I’m a creep. My son’s greatest fear is that I’ll steal his prom date.

This whole sad incident has taught me to really appreciate my wife. I realize now that if I down three shots of Jack and close my eyes, she feels just like a dopey 24 year-old.

You’ll be happy to hear that I patched things up my wife. I called Roman Polanski for advice. Half a quaalude and a bottle of champagne does the trick.

People think it’s disgusting that a old guy like me was messing around with young girls but you know what they say. You’re only as old as what you feel up.

So why accept a check if you have to pay taxes on it?

Incredibly, the IRS could still presume “imputed wages” and hit him for 40%+ in taxes.

Looking forward to Letterman getting what is due him...

a divorce,

lawsuits,

fired from CBS,

I hope he lives the rest of his life miserable for harassing interns.

“Why a Check?”

Why a duck?

Why a mouse, when it spins?

Speaking of spinning, does it bounce when it stops?

all I know is if you want bad news to get out there as gently as possible, you put out your "facts" first....

I think Davey has a whole lot more splaining to do...

Sure beginning to sound like a business deal gone bad. Maybe when the wife got wind of what kind of ‘reality’ show was about to be put on the big screen she said NO really really loud.

Sure is going to be one interesting trial. I can’t wait to hear what Letterman and his women have to say under oath.

National Enquirer

NUFF SAID!

Eh? There's less bias and more factual data there than in something truly disreputable like the New York Times.
