Comment: absurd decision on Obama makes a mockery of the Nobel peace prize
(London) Times ^ | October 9, 2009 | Michael Binyon

Posted on 10/09/2009 6:03:54 AM PDT by Zakeet

The award of this year’s Nobel peace prize to President Obama will be met with widespread incredulity, consternation in many capitals and probably deep embarrassment by the President himself.

Rarely has an award had such an obvious political and partisan intent. It was clearly seen by the Norwegian Nobel committee as a way of expressing European gratitude for an end to the Bush Administration, approval for the election of America’s first black president and hope that Washington will honour its promise to re-engage with the world.

Instead, the prize risks looking preposterous in its claims, patronising in its intentions and demeaning in its attempt to build up a man who has barely begun his period in office, let alone achieved any tangible outcome for peace.

The pretext for the prize was Mr Obama’s decision to “strengthen international diplomacy and co-operation between peoples”. Many people will point out that, while the President has indeed promised to “reset” relations with Russia and offer a fresh start to relations with the Muslim world, there is little so far to show for his fine words.

Are you kidding? This probably has Obama's ego inflated even more, something many experts thought impossible.

Carter and Gore had to do more than vote "present" to get theirs.

Don’t forget Arafat.

No, 0bama winning this prize doesn’t make a mockery of the Nobel - it already was a mockery.

This just puts the cherry on top.

This is from an ABC article:

“The deadline for nominations is February 1, meaning Obama would’ve been nominated after being in office for just 11 days.”

Gawdawful.

It’s a blatantly transparent move to keep any military action from being taken on Iran, and to influence Zero’s decision on Afghanistan.

It will probably work, too. Zero only mirrors.

So the Nobel Committee has signed to Affirmative Action?<p.

The peace prize is now the Nobel “Miss Congeniality” award.

Don’t forget the money. It’s a payoff.

Can it be that our president and the security of our country can be bought so cheaply?

Rarely has an award had such an obvious political and partisan intent.

Actually, I think it's quite traditional to award a booby-prize to whoever comes in last in the Olympic race.
The Nobel Committee should be praised for being so considerate.
It would be improper to have the Messiah appear on the World Stage and let him go home empty handed.

The Nomination Period ENDED just two weeks after the Inauguration....plenty of time to "earn" this recognition by the Messiah.....

What a joke. Almost as silly as Algore's Nobel Prize win!
