Obama: “If they make a mistake, I don’t want them punished with a baby.”

Lombardi is a Jesuit, which explains much, although not how he got his current job.

From Wikipedia:

On 11 July 2006 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him director of the Vatican Press Office, replacing Dr. Joaquín Navarro-Valls, who had held the post for 22 years.[2] Lombardi’s appointment to the Press Office of the Holy See merged with it the leadership of Vatican Radio and Vatican Television Center as well, as he continues to hold those directorships.[1]

Upon assuming the directorate, Lombardi said he would not be a papal “spokesman” since he believes Benedict XVI does not need an interpreter, saying, “I don’t think my role is to explain the Pope’s thinking or explain the things that he already states in an extraordinarily clear and rich way.”[3] He is considered to be taking a more low-key approach than his predecessor.[3]

Why would anyone say (especially a Catholic say) that Obama should have this prize.

Let’s ask all the babies in heaven who were aborted because of Obama’s mindset what they think.

And I’m sure that God would send Obama straight to the netherworld/Gehenna. (But I really can’t make this judgment, only God can.)

Shameful for Obortion Obama to get a peace prize at all.

The Catholic Church is exceedingly wrong. This is beyond words. I cannot begin to express my disdain for any “Church” that would condone someone as evil as this abortion and postborn baby murder promoter receiving a peace prize. PURE EVIL.

"[Abp Chaput's] in touch with reality, for Christ’s sake."

I see you have misunderstood me. I meant the statement literally: he is, for the sake of Christ, in touch with reality. Abp Chaput is defending the Gospel of Life and opposing Obama in the name of the Lord.

With reference to your later post: the "Catholic Church" is not praising Obama. These various Curial personages are exposing themselves as --- at best --- sillies on stilts, and ---at worst --- corrupt men deceived by the glamor of evil. (To use a familiar phrase.)

Abt Chaput, on the other hand, opposes Obama and defends the doctrines of the Church. We pray for him -- and the Church ---to prevail.

The article claims this man to be a spokesman for The Vatican. If he does not represent The Pope, the Pope must make a public statement to the fact and should even discipline him for what he has said. If he does not do this the statement must be consider to stand. It is the Pope who is in charge of and responsible for all that goes on in The Vatican and in The Catholic Church. The proverbial "buck" stops with The Pope, not only at The Vatican but for the whole Catholic Church. To say otherwise is anathema. What is going on with Popes who do not take disciplinary action on murderers and perverts??? Something has to give. It is not a matter of opposing forces in The Catholic Church. It is a matter of authority taking appropriate action and standing for truth. Abomination is taking place in the name of The Catholic Church. Where is the authority of The Pope????

VATICAN SPOKESMAN Fr. Federico Lombardi has reacted to the Nobel Peace prize being awarded to President Barack Obama saying that the news "WAS GREETED WITH APPRECIATION AT THE VATICAN in light of the president's demonstrated commitment to promoting peace on an international level and, in particular, in recently promoting nuclear disarmament."

According to the First Vatican Council The Catholic Church established that clearly The Pope is responsible for discipline at all levels of the Catholic Church. They have not carried out their necessary responsibilities. This cannot be denied. The First Vatican Council clearly states:

If anyone thus speaks, that the Roman Pontiff has only the office of inspection or direction, but not the full and supreme power of jurisdiction over the universal Church, not only in things which pertain to faith and morals, but also in those which pertain to the discipline and government of the Church spread over the whole world; or, that he possesses only the more important parts, but not the whole plenitude of this supreme power; or that this power of his is not ordinary and immediate, or over the churches altogether and individually, and over the pastors and the faithful altogether and individually: let him be anathema.

I understand that the Vatican is taking the initial steps to beatify Obama and place him on the road to sainthood.

My traditional priest will make some kind of sardonic statement about this in his sermon, I guarantee it.

not surprise here as most clergy are registered democrats and if they aren’t here in America, they follow the same philosophy.

Simple minds like yours confuse the idiotic statement of one person with the Church.

Nothing but a bottomless excuse for all the lack of discipline being executed by The Catholic Church. Sounds a bit like ACORN saying that the many perverted and criminally libel ACORN workers have nothing to do with ACORN on the whole but are just a few bad employees.

This "one person", Vatican spokesman, Fr. Federico Lombardi is the official director of the Vatican Press Office. He is also the general director of Vatican Radio and general director of the Vatican Television Center. To put it mildly he is the Robert Gibbs of The Vatican. He is the official spokesperson of The Vatican. I do not think he is just "one person". The Pope certainly is completely aware of him and needs to reign him in and do so publicly if what he said ....." the Nobel Peace prize being awarded to President Barack Obama saying that the news "was greeted with appreciation at the Vatican".... does not reflect The Vatican.

To say the news was greeted with appreciation at the Vatican is to say that The Pope greeted it with appreciation. Either Fr. Lombardi misunderstood The Pope or the Pope is wrong. If Fr. Lombardi misunderstood The Pope the issue must be clarified for justice, truth and decency. There is no possible that an abortion zealot and an avid promoter of children after birth be left to die miserably be deserving of any peace prize, ever!

Oh, you're quite right about Fr. Lombardi: he's the head of the Vatican Press Office and he either needs to reflect Pope Benedict's way of thinking, or be fired. This --- as most FReepers are well aware --- has been the stomach-churning situation for decades in the Catholic Church, from top to bottom: good doctrine, bad discipline.

Painfully ironic to see the reputation the Church gets in the eyes of the world: simultaneously "too authoritarian" and "too damned slack."

Please pray for me and mine, as I will for you and yours.

Actually the church has always been pro affirmative action. They are praising Obama’s race - the first American black president; not who he is under his skin or the content of his character. It is a shame they have not grown beyond the tribal thing but they have not.
