PRAYER
Dear Lord,
As we offer You thanks and praise, we realize how important it is to stay prepared for all the surprises in life. Daily, so many things catch us off guard, though they seem to happen over and over again. Would life be easier if we could begin the day with, "This is a drill. This is a drill?" Would we be any more prepared if there were drills for the many personal challenges we respond to daily?
Besides a "general quarters" for missile hits, we'd prepare to take hits for all the mistakes we're bound to make in the course of a day. In addition to handling major fuel oil leaks, we'd be trained to stop major gossip leaks before they have a chance to hurt our shipmates' reputations. With drills for day-to-day life scenarios, not only would we be prepared to fight "Class Charlie" fires, but through regular drilling we'd learn to extinguish classroom behavior which too often alienates those who are young and new to our crew.
Since we find ourselves in need of greater help, we call out to You, Lord, over the sound-powered phone of prayer. Surely Your throne is the Damage Control Central, where You plot our lives and note our dilemmas. We confess that we have crossed the secondary and even the primary boundaries You set to protect us. Therefore, we flee to Your repair locker for grace and mercy. Lord, patch us up, revive us, and restore us. Keep us fit to serve You with renewed strength and ready to take on each new day. In Your strong name we pray. Amen LT David D. Schilling, CHC, USNR

Freep mail me to be on or off the Daily Bread ping list
October 11, 2009
Go Beyond Reading
As the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness . . . longsuffering. Colossians 3:12
Pastor, where are the Our Daily Bread devotionals? The words came harshlyalmost in anger. The latest edition had not yet been placed in the rack outside the church auditorium. This led at least one reader to confront the pastor about their absence. Although it was not his responsibility to distribute the booklets, he felt terrible about the way this parishioner had reprimanded him for not making sure the devotional guides were there on time.
When I heard this, I was struck by the irony of this situation. Devotional booklets are meant to encourage Christian growth and godly grace. And as followers of Christ who read devotional materials, we hope we are moving toward spiritual maturity that leads to tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsufferingqualities Paul says we should put on (Col. 3:12).
Our spiritual disciplinesreading Gods Word along with accompanying study or devotional materials, prayer, and worshiping togethershould not be ends in themselves. Instead, those actions are means to becoming more Christlike, more godly, more Spirit-led. Our spiritual practice should lead to having the Word of Christ dwell in [us] richly (3:16). That will show in everything we do and say.
I want my heart to be in tune with God,
In every stage of life may it ring true;
I want my thoughts and words to honor Him,
Exalting Him in everything I do. Hess

Each day is a little better longer for her but, she does have relapse of depression.
Zeus is doing well. It's been fairly cool here of late and he does need to go to the groomers for a High-and-Tight trim.

I suspect that is to be expected, BUT with a safe environment and loving family....success will come.
Glad Zeus is doing well. Are you him walking around the neighborhood to be introduced?
