“If the president is obstructing the democratic process and opposing the decision of parliament as well as the will of the people, he is moving beyond the law and will need to face the consequences,” a German diplomat told The Sunday Times.
Jiri Oberfalzer, a member of the Czech senate and Klaus’s closest ally, said Nicolas Sarkozy, the French president, had already threatened the Czechs with expulsion from the EU.
“Ideas of changing the constitution just to get rid of the president only shows how weak our young democracy is,” said Oberfalzer, a Eurosceptic.
The political hot potato now lands in the hands of the caretaker government of Jan Fischer, the prime minister.
Under the Czech constitution a president can be impeached only if he commits high treason against the country’s independence or its territorial integrity and democratic order. It is highly unlikely that parliament would pass such a measure under Fischer’s interim government.
There are other hurdles. The treaty has been approved by the Czech parliament but senators loyal to Klaus have lodged three challenges with the constitutional court, which has rejected two and is widely expected to follow suit with the third.
Opponents of the treaty hope that Klaus will be able to stall ratification until the British general election in May. David Cameron, the Tory leader, has promised a referendum if his party wins and the treaty is still unsigned.

Our democracy is over 200 years old, but we now ignore the constitution to allow an inelligible man to be president.
Democracy is always weak, and must always be fought for.
Klaus is also a “Climate Denier”, giving them even more reason to get rid of him.

... And the systematic destruction of Christianity and the traditional family by the same is for the purpose of nullifying a source of competitive allegiance.
Remember they were much more forgiving of Saddam. Of course, it reminded them of the time when outsiders interfered with their dictator.

That is exactly what the Lisbon Treaty does. The EU Constitution was voted down, so they strip out a national anthem, move a deck chair here and there, and out comes a treaty.
Now both will allow the EU to be run by unelected, unaccountable politicians. As I said on another thread, sort of like having the President, Senate and House elect themselves and you little people zip your lips and obey.
The difference is that a Constitution required quite a few votes of the people whereas a treaty only needs to be confirmed by the same people that will benefit from it.

President Klaus is doing the exact opposite. It sounds like he is standing by his country's constitution and protecting its sovereignty. He's the best hope for stalling for time against this horrible abomination. Three cheers for President Klaus!

Yes - he sounds like one of the very few intelligent leaders in Europe. In Mark Steyn’s book “America Alone” he says the European governing elite spend their time being straitjackets for their people whom they think have the same base instincts that committed WWII and its atrocities. They’re fighting the forties war in the 21st Century, while the Muslims gradually take over Europe.
Czechoslovakia is a dagger aimed at the heart of Germay.
It's exactly what the Germans did to Czechoslovakia in March 1939, when Hitler flew in President Hacha and screamed at and browbeat him until Hacha signed away his country's independence.
