White House Memo: "Dealing With Our Political Enemies"
Web Archive ^

Posted on 10/13/2009 6:05:24 AM PDT by Reaganesque

This memorandum addresses the matter of how we can maximize the fact of our incumbency in dealing with persons known to be active in their opposition to our Administration, Stated a bit more bluntly--how we can use the available federal machinery to screw our political enemies.

After reviewing this matter with a number of persons possessed of experience in the field, I have concluded that we do not need an elaborate mechanism or game plan, rather we need a good project coordinator and full support for the project. In brief, the system would work as follows:

--Key members of the staff could be requested to inform us as to who they feel we should be giving a hard time.

--The project coordinator should then determine what sorts of dealings these individuals have with the Federal Government and how we can best screw them (e.g., grant availability, federal contracts, litigation prosecution, etc.)

--The project coordinator then should have access to and the full support of the top officials of the agency or departments in proceeding to deal with the individual.

I have learned that there have been many efforts in the past to take such actions, but they have ultimately failed--in most cases because of lack of support at the top. Of all those I have discussed this matter with, the President's California manager appears the most knowledgeable and most interested. If he had support he would enjoy undertaking this activity as the project coordinator. You are aware of some of his successes in the field, but he feels that he can employ limited efforts because there is a lack of support.

As a next step. I would recommend that we develop a small list of names--not more than ten--as our targets for concentration. Request that he "do a job" on them and if he finds he is getting cut off by a department agency, that he inform us and we evaluate what is necessary to proceed. I feel it is important that we keep our targets limited for several reasons: (1) a low visibility of the project is imperative; (2) it will be easier to accomplish something real if we don't over expand our efforts; and (3) we can learn more about how to operate such an activity if we start small and build.

This memorandum was sent from John Dean to Lawrence Higby, former assistant to H.R. Haldeman, dated Aug. 16, 1971.

I have said this before and I will say it again, the only thing the Left learned from McCarthy and Nixon was how to use such tactics to their own advantage. Enemies lists are good and proper when done by a Liberal, don't you know? 'Cause when they do it, "it's different!"

LBJ used those tactics effectively ... against both the right and the anti-war left ... and nobody questioned it. Nixon just copied what was SOP under LBJ.

Rahm&Co went after Rush in the spring and obviously forgot all the teachings of Alinsky in doing it. Alinsky teaches to first pick off small winnable battles that will destroy the allies of the real enemy one at a time.

Then, when sufficient supporters of the enemy have been intimidated or neutralized, pick off the bigger targets. So, to follow the Alinsky method, Rahm&Co should cause trouble for talkradio advertisers.

Selling gold on talkradio and gold at an all time high? Clearly the gold merchants (and not gubmint deficits) have weakened the dollar and hurt America. So the gold merchants are anti-American, unpatriotic and must be destroyed.

Some small town talkradio host did a parody of Obama? Clearly racist and that station’s license should be re-distributed in the public interest.

And you know what? Many sunshine patriots will start to disassociate themselves from each other and start fighting among themselves.

Hitler (Obummer) Just needs to nationalize Fox and there then is no real problem. It all goes away. Just ask Hugo or Fidel.

The road to impeachment is parallel to the road to perdition.

Make no mistake,

the way the left would like to “deal with” their political enemies involves incarceration and extermination.

Historically proven.

“LBJ used those tactics effectively...”

If you are relatively old and grew up in Texas, you know that LBJ was hardly subtle when he wanted to throw his weight around politically. He was likely to grab your shoulder give you a big Texas “Howdy” and then if you were crossing him politically, tell you he would break your arm if you did not do what he wanted.

Zero has his own Chicago thugs to do the same with none of LBJ’s Texas hospitality.

Reaganesque: Enemies lists are good and proper...

Sicko Romney's Enemies List included GOP candidate Gov. Palin and her CHILDREN.

"Peeking Out From the McCain Wreckage: Mitt Romney"

"Someone's got to say it: IS MITT ROMNEY RESPONSIBLE FOR OBAMA'S VICTORY?"

"Vanity: Team Romney Sabotaged Palin and Continuing to Do So?"

"Romney Supporters Trashing Palin"

"Romney advisors sniping at Palin?"

Chicago politicians play good cop, bad cop. Some are blatant thugs with no hospitality. But some are very good at seducing you into prostitution.

The best example is combine Republican Ray LaHood whose sole job is to use stimulus money to turn mayors and county boards and other local officials into becoming Ho’s for the #1 pimp.

They just scored on Rush in football.

The left has always been frustrated by their slowness to take over pop culture football, basketball, Nascar the way they have taken over most of pop culture.

Sports has always been about competition first. No affirmative action. Just show us what you can do. The left resents that minorities progeress faster when they are in competition with whites and progress slower when they are given affirmative action.

Competition is the enemy of the left. The left now sees the victory over Rush in football as a victory in the culture wars. They are succeeding in moving the NFL away from competition an more towards a reality TV model of entertainment amid fake competition based on acting ability.
