There is no money in it for them. No big businesses involved. Small town JP, young couple.. they don’t care about civil rights, they just want someone to shake down.

You are at best an Other

I always thought there should be a "None of your damn business" option on government forms.

Only if the guy was a throw back and didn’t care anymore about living a peaceful life.

Hope he isn’t looking to buy a football team.

Maybe we should all register ourselves as Others on the US census, as a protest.

I have personally talked with well educated black guys about why they feel so strongly for Democrats even when Republicans match their personal values better and Democrats were the party that wanted to keep Jim Crow the longest, and they tell me it is because of nut cases like this who jumped party from Democrat to Republican. I could only roll eyes, as this case is so rare.

Man...some of the comments to the article you linked to are ugly! There is no way those are for real.

Yep...we (myself, wife, or kids) never fill out the race boxes. We just leave them blank. Our boys have my darker skin...and our daughter skin is lighter than the boys, but she definitely doesn’t look white. You’ve got the whole spectrum covered...so what’s the point in filling out a stupid box. LOL

A Republican? In mainstream media they’re probably jumping for joy to have this story.

The majority of the white population in Louisiana voted for David Duke (R) in 1991.

I encourage my kids to check as many of the race boxes as possible. Digging around in our family roots, the only race I've not be able to conclusively come up with is African, although one family line goes back to Old King Coel of nursery rhyme fame who lived in Colechester, England, circa 350 a.d. Some sources believe Coel was Welsh, others believe he was a Roman citizen, probably from the province of Numidia (modern Algeria), who were encouraged to emigrate to England as the once, lush tropical province was changing into desert at the time and also because the Roman Empire needed loyal citizens to subjugate the rebellious Britons.

More than likely, these would be the ancestors of our modern Berbers, but English folklore is full of tales of black people who settled Colechester.

I never said that all black people share the same culture. You said that. However, that doesn’t mean that an American black culture doesn’t exist. Ask the average black person whether or not such a thing as “black culture” exists; I think you’ll find that many will agree that it does.

The same goes for Euros and Hispanics: on an individual level, there are many Euros and Hispanics who have nothing culturally in common with others of their ethnic groups. However, it’s obvious to me at least that most Euros in America do share certain cultural traits, as do most Hispanics.

Finally: why are you so angry about this? All I did was report my personal observations. Your hostile and accusatory tone indicates to me that your opinions on this topic are primarily based upon emotion and are poorly supported by fact. Your violent emotional responses to opinions that differ from your own suggest an underlying problem that might benefit from counseling or psychiatric care.

I have encountered only one successful Euro-Black marriage. Cultural differences between American blacks and other racial and/or ethnic groups are, in my opinion, at the root of this incompatibility.

Step back for a moment and realize just how many people are reading your post, and raising their eyebrows at this moment. I know that mine did.

So, you've known just one black/white couple that you consider to be successful. But you must have known quite a few others for you to have drawn the conclusion you just stated. How many is that, might I ask?

I want to know, because I'm in one of those "successful" marriages. 15 years, now. Oh, and my dad's has been "successful" for over 40 years now. Then there's my nephew and his wife. They're going on about year ten, I think.

As the white half of an interracial marriage, I feel like I can say this; What’s the big deal? He didn’t want to sign the license, but he didn’t deny them anything; he even directed them to a JP who would. What’s the big fizz?

Do we have to relate every single topic on almost every single thread back to Obama?

Clearly if this guy really refused to marry this couple based on their race(s), he ought not be allowed to perform his duties.

I encountered a slightly similiar situation back in the late ‘70’s.

I would never have imagined it could happen in 2009.
