A 10th person in Maryland has died of swine flu, state health officials said Tuesday. The person, an adult from Western Maryland, had underlying health problems. As with other deaths related to the H1N1 virus, officials would not release further details.

it is hitting people like me the hardest, good immune systems have the hardest time with it. Strange flu.

That's what happened near in 1918. The virus in 1918 was the Influenza A strain of sub-type H1N1.The healthier you were, the harder you were hit. Apparently, this strain causes the body to severly overreact. The official term is Cytokine Storm

"had underlying health problems"

regardless, they're still dead and H1N1 was a contributing factor.

Are the H1N1 cases showing up on the reservations?

Haven't heard for certain, but since they appear to not be actually reporting the number of cases, we may not know.

Like I said, in NM, they are saying if you have the flu, you have H1N1, as the regular seasonal flu isn't here yet.

In other words, another typical day on the internet.

Hah, I'll do ya one better.

I think the actual causes are being underreported to prevent panic right now (you know, cause the detention centers aren't ready yet). However, they want to hype it so folks are on edge. It's a thin line that only our betters, those in the media, know how to walk. Do I get my tin aluminum foil hat yet?

Several weeks ago they had to close a school in a small community near Farmington. Pretty sure that would have been reservation area.

Every child's life is precious, please don't misunderstand, but seasonal flu kills on average 36,000 people in this nation every year (if you believe the CDC estimate -- which is just an estimate and may be poorly contrived). By comparison, swine flu just doesn't sound like that big of a deal. Of course the vaccine companies will claim they've saved millions of lives ... just like the Obama administration claims they've saved millions of jobs. But after the swine flu scare of '76 (that never happened), and the vaccine released then that did hurt thousands, I'm dubious.

Yes. People have vague fears that it will be 1918 all over again and that 20 million people will die of influenza. Well, that sort of massive die-off would start someplace (and not likely in the country with the world's best healthcare). I look out across the globe and I see no indication that millions of people are dying.

This whole thing is a fizzle. No vaccine needed by me, thank you.

Actually, since the CDC (a political agenda driven organization of course) hit the “reset” button Sept. 1. So when they say “81” deaths, they mean since Sept 1, not since April when people started dying. THere have been at least 144 child deaths since April, and those are only the ones who are officially tested. Regular flu tests don’t catch swine flu at least 50% of the time, and if a regular flu test isn’t positive, most people are not tested further. Also, after taking Tamiflu, people test negative, even if they still die. THis has happened too.

The numbers of fatatities are way under reported.

Officially it’s least 1000 deaths altogether in the US, but that’s still undercouting due to test irregularities and of course they don’t wnat to test. And if the person had health problems, they like to pin the death on that instead of swine flu.

Nows they’re admitting that about half of the deaths were perfectly healthy with no underlyings. And some of these healthy teenagesr and kids die in 2 or 3 days from feeling sick. I’ve read of a few dying in one day.

This flu can cause multiple organ failure including heart attacks, blood clots in lungs, kidney failure, etc. It can have very strange symptoms.

>>They are admitting (not loudy) that the 14 yr old who collapsed in her Baltimore school and died in MD had no underlying health conditions-

hope they solve the mystery of what makes certain kids more vulnerable to disastrous side effects<<

Investigate Vitamin D3 and you’ll find some fascinating information. Not only is is likely to protect against flu, but low levels of vit D3 can also explain the cytokine storm phenomenon mentioned by a poster, as vit D3 helps control the inflammatory nature of the immune response.

Those of you, like myself, who comfort yourselves by saying that it’s not the flu, but the underlying medical condition, that is killing kids need to realize that most of those kids are probably deficient in vitamin D3 as well, given the nature of their conditions.

This is an easy, cheap measure that is highly likely to generate better health even if it isn’t protective against the flu. But regarding flu, I’ve read of 3 reports from physicians who noted that the large populations under their care, all of whom were getting daily doses of vitamin D3, were remarkably resistant to flu that other sub-populations around them were contracting at high rates. One doctor in a practice, for example, maintained her patients’ D3 levels while her partner didn’t bother. She was seeing no flu in her patients when her partner was seeing up to 10 cases a week. The level she was maintaining was 50-80 ng/ml, requiring 2000 to 5000 IU daily, depending on the individual.

I think this is a really big deal and anyone with kids, especially if the child is already compromised in some way, should investigate it.

The 36,000 fatalities a year is derived (quite recently, mind you) by statistical modelling. 95% of these deaths (whatever they are) are in people over 65. Most of the deaths from swine flu are in children, young people, and middle aged adults.

The pandemic is just starting.

You can say it’s no big thing when it’s over. It ain’t over yet.

There is practically no other flu this year other than swine flu.

Those who study it think there are various strains of it, some more severe and some not so severe. It’s still mutating and there are versions that are Tamiflu resistant. It’s just beginning.

1) The vaccine does NOT address this strain of the flu. They are totally different. The current vaccine is, at best, completely ineffective.

2) The vaccine version will mutate

3) The non-vaccine version will mutate differently, leaving us with at least 2 totally different strains (neither of which is counteracted by the vaccine).

4) This government never encourages or forces the citizenry to do anything that is in their own best interest. The vaccine push has far more sinister connotations.

Hey LJ. I'm not making any judgments myself at this time. But I was living in 1976 when the government last put the big swine flu scare into us. And I was living in 1979 when the lawsuits were being settled after the swine flu vaccine devastated many folks who trusted the government and took it. "Trust but Verify" in this country has eroded into "Verify then Trust". I fear we are being scammed once again. Here's a memory refresher : http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x9mh9f_swine-flu-1976-propaganda_webcam The Lord has made it very clear Pestilence and Death are coming; I just don't trust our government's ability (or motivation) to predict accurately the arrival time.

I’ve got my kids on 2000IU of VitD3 daily, I’m on 6000IU- we will go higher if anyone starts getting sick

DD school has no reports but other public schools all around us have very high flu rates

Once all the sheep H1N1 flu mist takers start shedding the virus all over the place, it will be everywhere.

Plus I’m on NAC, resveratrol and curcumin and occasional selenium booster. If pig flu comes to my house, I’m going down fighting..!

I don’t EXPECT them to do anything. I EXPECT BO and his pack of losers to be blamed for this just like Bush would be blamed for it.

OK. I guess I just misunderstood what you meant earlier.

I will admit that I have been (obsessively) reading about pandemic flu for the last few years. I also (of course) do not trust the government to have the interest of us ordinary folks in mind.

I will never take any vaccine of any sort - I have allergies or extreme sensitivity to almost every pharaceutical drug I’ve ever had up to and including anaphylactic shock, luckily in a hospital setting, or I would not be sitting here typing.

But I am very, very concerned about this swine flu. If you want to read unvarnished and non-partisan news (people dig it out, actually many of the members on the forum are conservative, the forum policy is no politics), the best site is PFI.

http://www.singtomeohmuse.com/viewforum.php?f=1&sid=fe963e77f502fb2c50163d15b76a5284

The moderators are definitely pro-vaccine but the forum is divided. I don’t mind people who are pro-vaccine, but too many people I know have gotten very sick or very bad reactions from even regular flu vaccines.
