Galt meeting to help town's cash-strapped, unemployed residents (irony?)

If you are out of a job or just want some financial information on staying afloat in this economy, Galt will be play host to a town hall meeting and career expo on Wednesday.

The meeting, organized by Councilman Andrew Meredith, will be called "When the Paycheck Stops." It will be 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Littleton Community Center, 410 Civic Drive, which is next to Galt City Hall.

It will focus on creating a postlay-off financial plan, dealing with creditors and advice on how to keep food on the table. There will also be information on the programs utility companies have to help residents, including subsidies on utility payments for unemployed customers.

Meredith "planned the event in the hopes of connecting Galt residents facing financial crises with much-needed help," he said in a news release.

There will also be several skilled trade organizations to discuss application procedures for their internship programs. Local businesses needing to hire employees are also encouraged to attend the event.

The idea came from Tom Lawson, who is a United Way community services director and a director of American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations, a federation of 57 national and international labor unions.

Over the past several months, Lawson has gave similar presentations to labor union members.

Anyone who wants to volunteer for the event is encouraged to contact Tracy Gross at 603-4801.

I wonder if the representatives from Galt will suggest that the attendees "go Galt"?

Creamer probably didn't think about the potential irony when she wrote the piece...

"American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations"

Sounds like something right out of "Atlas Shrugged".

I knew it was in the Valley somewhere, especially considering it was a Lodi newspaper publishing this article.
