NY poll suggests Hoffman supporters wouldn't back rival

Doug Hoffman might not be hurting Dede Scozzafava as much as she is hurting herself.

A new poll shows Democrat Bill Owens holds a 35-30 lead over Scozzafava in the New York special election. The Research 2000 poll for the liberal website Daily Kos echoes a poll from last week that showed Owens leading Scozzafava 33-29. Conservative Party candidate Hoffman was at 23 percent in both polls.

<snip>

Financial reports filed Thursday showed Owens extending a large fundraising lead over Scozzafava, with Hoffman remaining in contention thanks to strong online fundraising.

The actual poll results are here. It is an interesting read. One thing I notice is that Hoffman has more than half of the poll respondents who have no opinion of him either favorable or unfavorable. That is a name recognition problem. There are some other interesting data points in that poll.

Has everyone seen this: “The Most Important Number in Politics Today.”

Doug Hoffman is the Conservative alternative in this race (or Hoffman by PayPal).

Markos Moulitsas, founder of The Daily Kos has endorsed Scozzafava. Dede Scozzafava has also been endorsed by NYSUT, the largest labor union in New York, and an affiliate of the National Education Association.

Scozzafava also holds these positions:

Scozzafava has also run in past elections on the Working Families Party (a progressive party associated with ACORN) line on the ballot.

This lady isn’t a RINO, she is a big “R” libeRal democRat. Mark Steyn has coined the term DIABLO for her and others like her. Democrat In All But Label Only.

There are also at least 17 unprincipled DIABLO enablers in the house who have donated funds or otherwise supported to this LibeRal democRat's DIABLO’s campaign. They include Boehner, Cantor, Sessions, Hensarling, Brown-Waite and McCotter. I don’t have a full list, but I will be looking for it. These unprincipled enablers should be targeted for elimination in the primaries next year. Also, perhaps those of us who donated to the RNC or RCCC should ask for our money back so we can support the conservative candidates of our choice.

Might explain why McHugh voters avoided McCain last November. Wonder what the difference in vote tallies between McHugh and McCain were?

I have actually looked at the vote totals by county for this district. They are online on the New York elections site.

It was interesting, it looks like voters in this district actually voted for McHugh and for Obama as well. They didn’t sit out the line for President. The total votes for both the Presidential race and the McHugh congressional race were about the same total.

Hard to read that, really. There was some incumbent advantage to McHugh. This could be read as the district getting more liberal. But it also could be a "Conservative Yes, RINO No" message.

If you have to send THAT message; sitting out would have been a much better idea.

I think I read somewhere that much of his boost came from her numbers implosion. He’s not just matching her numbers, he’s pulling the voters out from underneath her.
