Cut your nose off to spite your face often?

I have found it is some times good to carry open and some times it is good to carry concealed. When carrying open, it is often I am also carrying concealed. When I am carrying with a large group open does work well. When you are alone or with a few armed people concealed is better.

Lurker and I agree to a very high degree. I’ve read his stuff for some time here, and while he’s technically correct, that and $2 will buy you a cup of coffee. I’m interested in winning, not in pissing off people I don’t have to. There are plenty of statist @$$&0!e$ to dis in this life.

So Lurker, do you carry on every day with your open carry full-auto M16 at your side?

In my line of work that's impractical. However there is a 'civilianized' AK variant in my truck and a nice little Czech 9mm within easy reach.

And while your buddy may be 'technically correct', we ain't gonna win this war by worrying about whom we offend.

It's way past time we adopt the tactics used by the Left and get right in their stinking faces.

Scalia was crystal clear in Heller. Open carry may be banned or concealed carry may be banned. Both cannot be. If they won't 'give' us CC, then OC is the way to go.

Perhaps if we 'offend' enough of them CC will be universally accepted.

It's called "strategery". Your friend might want to look into it sometime. Just a thought.

Best,

L

“I don’t want crooks to know I am armed. I want it to be a complete surprise when I come up shooting.”

The deterrent effect is much broader when the thug’s know that anyone could be armed but can’t tell by looking. When I go out with my family, even my kids don’t know when I’m carrying.

Heh...Actually, I knew you both were both like minded - just a bit off in how to get it done...ha. It is nice to see so many here that understand the Constitution and abide by it.

Lurker’s thoughts are no different than mine, but maybe put a bit more aggressively that I would put them... It really does take some guts to realize that just talking is not going to change minds - you have to continue to show and tell to get the job done.

There (RKV) you and I might vary a bit - I am just so tired of trying to get the police and government of excepting the Constitution and stop harassing citizens that are obeying the laws that I sometimes go a bit overboard - like Lurker does... Yes, I think that both of you think the same but might differ in how to change the current customs...

Carrying a gun openly in a city can — and does — offend people who might not have a strong opinion one way or the other about gun control.

Whereas I understand the importance of voters and how they can be stupid in casting it for anti-2A politicians/ballot proposals, being afraid to offend people is what got us in this never-ending PC spiral. Other people may certainly be offended, as is their right, but when we let that offense effect our behaviour we have already lost.

Gun Wisdom

Clint Smith, Director of Thunder Ranch, is part drill instructor, and part stand up comic.

Here are a few of his observation on tactics, firearms, self defense and life as we know it in the civilized world.

"The handgun would not be my choice of weapon if I knew I was going to a fight....I'd choose a rifle, a shotgun, an RPG or an atomic bomb instead."

"The two most important rules in a gunfight are: always cheat and always win."

"Every time I teach a class, I discover I don't know something."

"Don't forget, incoming fire has the right of way."

"Make your attacker advance through a wall of bullets. I may get killed with my own gun, but he's gonna have to beat me to death with it, cause it's going to be empty."

"If you're not shootin', you should be loadin'. If you're not loadin', you should be movin', if you're not movin', someone's gonna cut your head off and put it on a stick."

"When you reload in low light encounters, don't put your flashlight in your back pocket. If you light yourself up, you'll look like an angel or the tooth fairy and you're gonna be one of 'em pretty soon."

"Do something. It may be wrong, but do something."

"Nothing adds a little class to a sniper course like a babe in a Ghilliesuit."

"Shoot what's available, as long as it's available, until something else becomes available."

"If you carry a gun, people will call you paranoid. That's ridiculous. If I have a gun, what in the hell do I have to be paranoid for."

"Don't shoot fast, shoot good."

"You can say 'stop' or 'alto' or use any other word you think will work but I've found that a large bore muzzle pointed at someone's head is pretty much the universal language."

"You have the rest of your life to solve your problems. How long you live depends on how well you do it."

"You cannot save the planet. You may be able to save yourself and your family."

"Thunder Ranch will be here as long as you'll have us or until someone makes us go away and either way it will be exciting."

And More Excellent Gun Wisdom....... The purpose of fighting is to Win. There is no possible victory in defense.

The sword is more important than the shield, and skill is more important than either.

The final weapon is the brain. All else is supplemental.

Lasergrips Are An Immediate Decisive Advantage

We have a very reasonable concealed weapon permit law in Idaho

Stopped reading at this point. The right to carry and to self defense is granted from GOD & the U.S. Constitution. Anything less is begging government for PERMISSION which no longer makes it a right.

“Some of us live in a state such as Maryland where we cannot carry concealed or otherwise.

“It sucks. Highest taxes in the country. Democrat run legislature, Democrat tax and spend Governor, Steny Hoyer for a Congressman.”

My gosh, man, why do you live there? Only place in the nation you can find a job? Please don’t tell me it’s a matter of your family has always lived there.

I would NEVER live in Maryland.

I'm female and I believe that every law-abiding non-felon citizen should openly carry at all times.

What's the movie where these two idiots decide to rob a bar and when they walk in proclaiming to be robbers all the patrons pull their HUGE firearms? Turns out the bar they chose was the favorite of the police.

If everyone carried openly, the crime rate would decrease to nearly zero.

The reason for carrying a weapon is so that you won't be placed in a position to need to use it because no one is gonna mess with a crowd of openly carrying people.

Every State should have a law similar to Virginia's . . . if you commit a crime while carrying a gun, it's an automatic FIVE Year Sentence, no questions asked, even if you're exonerated by a jury.

It's a heck of a lot less painful than cutting off the trigger finger of everyone who uses a gun while committing a crime. Although that might be an alternative. /sarc did I have to say so?

I’m not clear that what I’ve done is antagonizing. I have pointed out a difference between rhetoric and practice. Further, as I noted above, fun owners who don’t know who Clayton Cramer is haven’t been paying attention. They’re the kind of folks who will tell you to your face that they are NRA members, and never send in the few bucks it takes to actually become a member (turns out this is a factual case among gun owners, who say they are members at a much higher rate than actually are members [i.e. they lie]). There are plenty of Zumbos out there who got their guns, and don’t give a shit about the rest of us who are fighting for our rights.

Hey, when you young and looking for wages, you can make all kinds of mistakes. At least, you and I can point out the fallacy of this when dealing with Maryland so that the younger folks won’t make the same mistake. I just hope that they understand the warning...ha

I have shown my gun several times over my 56 years. Kept me from being assaulted every time.

Must be a lot of amateur weapons ID experts out there. I never seem to have to show the whole gun. The grips seem to do it. (IWB)
