The way I see it, Scozzo is the Ross Perot who is ruining Hoffman’s chances for a win. She needs to back out but that ain’t going to happen.........
The Founding Fathers did not intend for us to only have two parties to choose from.
She wouldn’t do that. If anything, I’d expect her to drop out and throw her support to the rat.
It’s more humiliating to the RNC when Hoffman wins with their $500,000 candidate still in the race. I hope she stays in.
Vaya con Dios.
Good piece, PJ!
I’d like to see an interview of the GOP decision makers involved in this one. Would like to see how they would have (tried to) defended this candiate selection process.
They nominated a democrat- is this the new strategy?!
Hope the Conservative Hoffman wins decisively, by a margin that sends a very clear message in NY and Nationally.
Well Newt’s concern is dealt with via the “SOUR GRAPES” laws that some states, (PA being one of them have). If a candidate runs in a primary for any party and loses, they may not be on the General Election Ticket, period.
Of course this rule has its disadvantages too, had CT had this rule, Ned Lamont would be its Senator today.
The REAL test is going to be if the RNC gives the 300k to scozzafasalalalala.
Didn’t Scozzafasalalalala do something really stupid this past weekend and the MSM is not cover it?
If the NRCC pours in $200,000 at the last minute on ads attacking Hoffman, as Politico suggests they may, they might still succeed in throwing the election to the Democrat.
Scozzafava doesn’t have a chance, IMHO. The people in the district have seen her, and they don’t like what they see. She is one ugly candidate, both literally and metaphorically.
But I agree that the NRCC may just prefer to see the Dem elected, so they can blame us ignorant voters for supporting “a third party candidate.”
This will certainly be a test of whether they are willing to see the light, even grudgingly, or whether they are determined to stick to their losing, big tent ways to the very end, because their pride and sense of entitlement are at stake.
Nominating a RINO in a conservative congressional district is like trying to throw the football into the end zone four straight times from your opponent's one yard line.
What business is it of Newt’s how many people run under whatever name-party they choose? We shouldn’t even have parties. We are not a Parliamentary form of govt. Newt is taking the attitude that only Republicans and Dems have a right to run for office and that anyone else needs permission from him and his cronies before they can throw their hat in the ring.
The two main political parties have become the aristocracy our founders fought against.
True but if she were to drop out it would still be seen as a big slap down of the RNC.
“If Newt really wants to run for prez, why the heck did he go out of his way here to tick off the party base??? Maybe he’s been out of the game too long. “
McCain did the same thing and the gov. media rewarded him with the republican nomination.
Maybe Newt can run for President and help Obama get re-elected... McCain can give him pointers.
I just want Mr. Hoffman to win the race.
I'd be pretty bummed out if Scuzzyfella stayed in to the end and acted as a spoiler, giving a small edge to Owens.
If she dropped out, Mr. Hoffman's advantage would likely grow significantly.
This is a strongly-Republican district. Having the spoiler Scuzzyfella in the race makes a Hoffman win a dicier proposition.

whoa, those numbers.
Right. For the good of the party, Scozz should drop out and enthusiastically support Hoffman.
