WaPo: 'It Is Now a Two-Person Race Between Hoffman and Democrat Owens With Scozzafava Fading Badly'
Newsbusters ^ | 10/27/09 | PJ Gladnick

Chris Cillizza at the Washington Post has written a story in his Morning Fix political news analysis that is sure to cause conniption fits over at the Daily Kos which endorsed "Republican" Dede Scozzafava in the New York 23rd CD race that has now grabbed the attention of the political world. The political news that Cillizza has reported looks great for Conservative Doug Hoffman, bad for Scozzafava, and very depressing for the Daily Kos (and Newt Gingrich):

The Iowa caucuses may be more than two years from now but a series of moves by potential Republican presidential contenders has turned a special election in New York's 23rd district into an early test of conservative bona fides.

Hoffman can win this thing. If he doesn't, I put the blame squarely on the heads of the RNC and Newt.

I think the folks at the RNC would be angrier with a Hoffman win than the DNC.

Unfortunately, not mad enough to resign in protest, or commit suicide.

A fish in the newspaper to Obama, the RNC, the congressional RINOs, a good omen to those conservatives ready to run in 2010. That’s just a quick run through.

With the once-dignified Mister Gingrich among them.

I hope Hoffman wins. If he does, the Republican Party should take heed.

Principle matters.

When are these morons going to get it? We are tired of the RNC putting up bad candidates. Scuzzyface is a bad candidate and we are not going to support her.

Did you catch this at the end?:

“UPDATE: A new Neighborhood Research poll has just come out showing the following results: Hoffman 34.1%, Democrat Bill Owens 29.2%, and Scozzafava 13.9%, with a ±4.8% margin of error. Among definite voters, it’s Hoffman 37.5%, Owens 28.4%, and Scozzafava 13.5%, with a ±5.6% margin of error. Daily Kos switching its endorsement to the Democrat in 5... 4... 3... 2... 1...”

If Newt really wants to run for prez, why the heck did he go out of his way here to tick off the party base??? Maybe he's been out of the game too long.

Daily Kos endorsed Scozzafava? Whoosh! BOOM! A torpedo just struck the S.S. Scozzafava amidship.

And if they don’t, we’ll replace them once we tell 100 million people that they are traitors.

You're right, and so would be all the NY GOP party Bosses - which is why the Party needs to purge the RINO's.

(Newt) warned of the "grave danger of establishing the precedent that every faction can run a third party candidate if they lose a primary or a convention"

That is something like a fair point from Newt. However, when 'our' candidate is a lefty who considered running on the Democrat ticket, there is no choice. Newt needs to realize that he's made a terrible mistake. Too bad for him, he now has zero political capital.

The best thing Scozzafava can do is withdraw.

It’s clear that Scuzzyfella should drop out and back the actual conservative Republican.

Prominent Republicans should start calling on her to drop out.

If Newt really wants to run for prez, why the heck did he go out of his way here to tick off the party base??? Maybe he's been out of the game too long. He gambled on Dede and preferred to support 7 Party Bosses than thousands of grassroots conservative Republicans because he wants the Party Boss support for Prez in 2012 - he gambled and lost.

Newt has proven in the past that he has delusional moments that make those around him scratch their heads. It’s worth taking that into account when assessing him has a potential presidential candidate.
