Two new polls released this morning show Republican gubernatorial nominee Bob McDonnell with a double-digit lead over his Democratic rival R. Creigh Deeds.

A Virginia Commonwealth University survey shows McDonnell with an 18-point margin over Deeds among likely voters, while a Rasmussen poll conducted yesterday after President Barack Obama's visit to Norfolk puts McDonnell up 13 points.

Why would you bother to vote if your guy’s getting blown out of the water?

Mustn’t...gloat...yet...

You got THAT one right... because, why would you bother to vote if you “have something better to do” and, besides, your guy is leading by double digits?

Big lead cuts both ways.

Correct. Four years ago Kaine had a 9 point lead in the polls over Kilgore. Kaine won with 51.5 percent.

Easy to do. If your normal working hours plus commute time is > 11 hours between 0600 and 1900, you’re eligible. I would imagine that includes most of Northern Virginia. Traffic at my local registrar’s office yesterday was extremely light.

If my name were R. Creigh Deeds and I were running for governor, I’d get my name changed. Or at least call myself Bob Deeds.

Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t think that the sound of “Creigh Deeds” will bring out the redneck vote.

Methinks Obamanation is bringing in the ACORNs into Virginia by the busload to get out the Mickey Mouse and Bob D. Builder vote.

Excellent news. This will be quite a defeat for BH0. But if Dems win the other 3 elections the media will scream about how they are still the party in control, as absurd as that would be. Corzine, if he wins, will surely get under 45% of the vote. The split in NY could bring a Demo victory but certainly with under 50%. And the CA special election is in a heavily Democrat district. So they will spin things their way, but a big victory in VA will be the clearest sign that Republicans are resurgent.

Why is the CiC out campaigning, when he should be making important decisions about Afghanistan troop levels?

Outstanding!! Let’s pray for the right outcomes in NJ and the NY 23rd district also. I’d like to see the blue dogs scared to death when the Obamacare and cap n tax votes come up.

Because campaigning is a lot like community organizing, Afghanastan requires being a commander in chief.

You said "Er - he’s from coal mining country. They’ll vote. It’s just that more of US will vote."

Actually, Deeds was born in Richmond. Raised in Bath County, which is not coal country. It is Homestead Resort country. Population 4,800.
