US government report recommends blocking popular websites during pandemic flu outbreak

The US government has issued a new report that recommends blocking access to popular websites during a pandemic outbreak in order to preserve internet bandwidth for investors, day traders and securities clearing house operations. The concern is that a pandemic would cause too many people to stay at home and download YouTube videos and porn, hogging all the internet bandwidth and blocking throughput for investment activities, thereby causing a stock market meltdown.

This isn't an April Fool's joke. It's all based on a public report issued by the Government Accounting Office (GAO), available from their website at http://www.gao.gov/new.items/d108.pdf

In this article, I'm going to explain how a pandemic outbreak could theoretically bring down Wall Street. But to get to that, you'll first need to find out what the GAO said in its curious report (see below). Parts of this article are presented as satire, but the underlying facts quoted here are all true and verifiable (links are provided to all sources).

I love their opinion of us, if we’re sick we’ll all be home downloading porn? This stuff was surely written by a democrat ......because that's exactly what he'd do if he were home sick, you see.

Mass protests and demonstrations would easily be banned too

That would only work with sites that are within the US. They can’t shut down the entire world. And if they tried to make the providers shut down, they would be shutting down their own conduit, as well.

An armed population has the right to freely assemble. We outnumber them. Tianamen Square worked for the Chinese, because the only thing the protesters could do was stand in front of a tank. We can do a lot more.

I guess I would be an underground operator then.

Keep in mind when TSHTF there will be no laws, no FCC, no gobment.

That is the reality.

IMHO...what this is “telling” us ..is that in the event of an “emergency” the Executive branch has a button in the Oval Office that will effectively activate a server swarm at NSA to choke the internet.

I have worked from home, and did have some serious issues whenever school was snowed-out and all the neighborhood kiddies were spending the day on iTunes and YouTube. It would play hell with my VOIP phone among other things. Now that we’re wired with FIOS I suspect it’s not a problem.

Pretty transparent then what they are doing. FR and RushLimbaugh.com would be the first to go, I’m sure.

In the event of an emergency and all the people are home sick instead of being at work on their computers using up bandwidth, they will be at home with fewer computers to use up bandwidth. So even though the bandwidth use potential is much less with people staying home, they need to be able to shut down the internet just in case.

Yeah uh, that’s the ticket. We’ll just shut down the internet. We’ve already declared H1N1 surely we can use that crisis to shut down something. Too many people listening to Rush and watching Fox over the internet anyway./s

Signal triangulation is easy. Try broadcasting a pirate signal now, and the FCC van will be at your door in only a couple of days. In this situation, TSHTF is actually an increase of government, not no government. They’ll have even more triangulation trucks after they impose communications restrictions.

What a simply retarded premise!

The free market will always make sure there is plenty of bandwidth available.

Sorry, I forgot the part about more government....

I will obey everything they say while they tear this country apart, right?

As a vet who has blood in the game and an oath keeper, there is no way!

I know 8 people I see everyday that have had the swine flu.

They are not telling people that the regular flu death toll last year was much higher and that those dying had pre- existing medical conditions that contributed to their deaths.

It is a farce.

Could they stretch their arms any further to reach for an excuse to shut down communications for the common people???
