Not so much that he went. It would be an honorable thing for any president to do as commander-in-chief. But it’s a cheap political stunt when he takes a photographer along.

As usual, it’s all about him, not the soldier who gave all that honor had to give and it was cheapened by a cheap photo op.

No class. None whatsoever!

Our founding fathers were very emphatic about keeping the Military under civillian control. Only Military personnel are privileged to salute. And then only when in unifrom not in civillian attire. President Reagen sterted saluting his Marine guards at the Marine One helicopter. We all accepted it because he was so enthused about doing it, But even he was not authorized to do it.

This Sunday, the New York Times Magazine , is having a big spread on the Obama’s marriage.
In the piece, it is reported that Michelle ponders Supreme Court
nominees while Barry ponders fabric swatches and color choices for the White House redecorating.
Republicans , like McCain , keep politely urging Barry to act “ quickly “ on Afghanistan.
Quickly left the station last August when he first got McChrystal’s report.
They are talking to the wrong person.
Michelle is obviously the one who will make the decision on undercutting
our troops .
While Barry is off playing basketball, golf and watching Sports Center with his special man friend Reggie Love.
And we taxpayers foot the bill for Barry’s playmate to the tune of $ 102,000/ year.
Obama is our nation’s most despicable and derelict Commander in Chief.

For the love of God, someone teach that imbicile how to salute. If he was my troop when I was an NCO I would have smoked the piss out of that little sally.

Remember when he was in germany, he wouldn’t visit wounded troops because he was denied permission to bring his photographers?

I bet if that one family had not given permission he would have left before the caskets were off the plane. I wonder how many times he made them carry the casket off then put it back on the plane so they could get the perfect shot.

I’m amazed at the level of professionalism and restraint those soldiers on the tarmac exibited. Can’t you just imagine them fighting back the urge to give him a little wall to wall counseling?

But it’s a cheap political stunt when he takes a photographer along.

Wasn't just 'a' photographer. It was full scale production crew of 24--(twenty-four) photographers, etc. according to another article that I read.

In 2005 I was involved in a forum with President Bush and when it was over my family got to have pictures taken with him. After our picture taking was over he excused himself because he was going to spend some time with a few families whose sons were killed in Iraq.....the families were in a private room and the President went into there alone with no reporters etc. He spent at least 30 minutes with them and when he came out it was obvious they had all been crying.....I have never forgotten this and I know how much this must have meant to those families.

What an amazing statement! Liz rocks. Nailed it. Stripped the emperor bare.
LIZ CHENEY: I don't know why he went to Dover. I think that clearly it is very important for a commander-in-chief whenever he can, in whatever way possible, to pay tribute to our fallen soldiers, our fallen military, folks, but I think, you know, what President Bush used to do was to do it without cameras, and I don't understand sort of showing up with the White House press pool with photographers and asking family members if he can take pictures. I mean, that's really hard for me to get my head around. I think it's an honorable and important thing to pay tribute, there's no greater sacrifice people make to the nation. It was a surprising way for the president to choose to do it. I would also point out that the best way to pay tribute to those who have sacrificed is to win the war.

[emphasis added]

Actually, he had a crew from the WH with him too. Did’t you see Eric Holder and the others. There was a woman and another man with him - but I couldn’t tell who they were.
I’d assume not the parents as they stood with Holder and not the President.

Yes, it is true.

And some of the families shared what President Bush did. He hugged them, listened to their stories, gave them comfort, and wept with them.

I miss having a real Commander in Chief. I miss having a real President.

"Only Military personnel are privileged to salute. And then only when in unifrom not in civillian attire."

Not exactly true. President Bush gave us veterans (and military in civvies) the privilege of rendering the military salute -- under specific circumstances:

See #31. President Bush signed into law permission for veterans and military in civilian dress to salute the passing flag. If the passing casket is flag-draped and, if you are military or a veteran you are authorized to render the military salute to it.

Thank you, President Bush!

I just remembered that I posted the contents of #31 (and more) as a FR thread

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2040095/posts B>

before last Independence Day.

It mentions that President Bush signed the authorization into law 28 JAN 2008...

Obama used it as a self-promoting photo-op because he is lower than commie pond-scum. period

Well, I will say that it played very well with me when I saw it, but Rush and Liz Cheney have a real point, as did Rush's caller: this is more Clintonoid photo-op politics.

We know how closely Rahm Emanuel coordinates with the old Clinton PR team of Begala, Carville, and Clintonopoulos, and the post-inaugural FOIA request for phone records showed those four were exchanging over 400 phone calls per day, and Rush had already showed us on his TV show 15 years ago how phony and stagey Clinton was back then -- Rush's guys busted Clinton again and again, catching him over and over again, performing like a dancing bear, a pander-bear, for the cameras.

I have to say these guys' take is incisive and persuasive, that Obama's trip has to be viewed as suspicious for political showmanship.

And Rush and Liz are right, Shrub did lots of things with vets and bereft families privately and quietly, and covered himself with genuine affection and honor when he did so.

OBOZO continues to Violate All of the Laws of the Land and the Proper Respect of Our Counry’s Most IMPORTANT SYMBOLS!
Remember how he fondled His Crotch during the Playing of Our National Anthem at the Horrid Democrat ffair in IOWA! even grossly more obscene than the desecration of Our FLAG by the now Known Author of his Alleged Memoir, the Unrepentant Terrorist and Avowed Communist and NOW KNOWN CLOSE FRIEND of the OBAMA HUSSEINS, William Ayers, trampling on Our FLAG in a dirty Alleyway in Chicago for a cover of Magazine. Lets at least let RUSH, HANNITY and BECK and hopefully the RNC and maybe even McPAIN bring this Travesty to the Attention of the AMERICAN PUBLIC!!
MAY GOD CONTINUE TO BLESS OUR GREAT UNITED STATES MILITARY!!!
Thank you Old Seadog and TXnMA for Your Great SERVICE to AMERICA, OUR GREAT AMERICA!! which No ALLEGED PRESIDENT EVER SHOULD APOLOGIZE FOR!! EVER!!!!

It was nice that he met with the families. I just think that it would have been nice to meet the fallen as they returned to US soil.
