Obama won't 'micromanage' generals in Afghanistan: Clinton

WASHINGTON — US President Barack Obama will lay out broad strategic guidelines for Afghanistan after November 7 runoff elections there but will not "micromanage" the generals fighting the war, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Friday.

Clinton made the remarks when asked whether forces would be pulled back from the Pakistan-Afghanistan border under a new strategy that reportedly will refocus the US-led military effort on protecting Afghan population centers.

"The president is not going to micromanage what our generals do," she said in an interview with PBS television.

"The president is going to say, 'Here's our strategic objectives, here's what is needed for us to meet the mission we have, here are the troops that you're going to be given, here are the civilians and the political strategy that we are integrating.'"

"But he's not going to be looking at a map and saying, 'Do you have two people there and four people there?' That's not the way it's done," she said.

That's because an essential component of "Micro-Management" is the ability to manage, of which Obama has yet to demonstrate even minimal capability.

Should the US run a counterterrorism operation or a counterinsurgency operation.

All ready doing the Counter terrorist gig, it what General McCrystal is saying is failing.

But if you, Obama and Biden what to keep failing and getting Americans troops killed for nothing, keep assuming you know more 9,000 miles away then the guy on the ground does.

They a have also already begun the counterinsurgency "gig".

Operation Strike of the Sword. 2nd Battalion, Eight Marines.

Did you take the time to follow Echo Company's mission on prime time TV?

“”That’s not the way it’s done,” she said.””

She’s speaking from what? I didn’t realize she’d ever managed a war - except in her own household. Too bad we’re not as impressed with these people as they, themselves are.

When you are called for making snarky rude posts about a topic you clearly know nothing about, it is best to simply walk away rather then squeal your ignorance louder and louder.

When General McCrystal calls you asking for your advice, let us know otherwise don't bother us with your ignorant Freeper General postings.

Public opinion has already turned, and I'll tell you why and when.

Last march the NeoCons kicked off their new "think tank", Foreign Policy Initiative(FPI). They had to do this because public opinion against the NeoCons and their old think tank, Project for a New American Century(PNAC), was so strong.

Attending that event was John Nagl, a former Lt Col who had been an advisor to Petreaus. He was one of Petreaus' "best and brightest", West Point and Rhodes Scholar, an intellectual militarist. A scholar in the art of counterinsurgency. He rewrote the Army/Marine COIN manual that is being used in Afghan.

Kagl had become the president of the think tank, Center for a New American Security(CNAS), last Jan, after the previous president(Michele Flournoy) had become Obama's Undersecretary of Defense for Policy.

Prior to this, Kagl, Exum, Kilcullen, Flournoy and all the others promoting COIN were all considered to be liberal interventionists, who only concern was American security.

But when Kagl attended the FPI kickoff, many began to see a connection between the interventionists and the neocons, that what was previously considered to be security doctrine was now a empire building doctrine.

Public opinion on this has already been expressed in the GOP election bloodbaths of 2006 and 2008. US voters are going to vote against the NeoCons and their empire building.

You don't seem to get it.

Screaming your ignorant slogans louder and louder does not magically change your ignorance to wisdom. It merely exposes your stupidity to a larger and larger audience.

I take the opinions of the guys on the ground seriously. I do not take seriously the ignorant slogan shouting of self appointed never been anything Freeper Generals.

I guess this means he’s going to just leave our soldiers with rules of engagement that favor the enemy, and cut back on the extensive FIVE PERCENT of his time that he’s spent focusing on this very important war since being told if we don’t handle it right we just could LOSE THE WAR.

The reason Biden said "who cares what Cheney says or thinks" is because the general public doesn't care what Cheney and the NeoCons think.

Obama ran on the Realist doctrine and McCain ran the NeoCon Doctrine Obama won and has been following the Realists.

If you want a clue as to what will happen, listen to what the Realists are saying, not Cheney.

Pay attention to SoD Gates, NSA Jones, Colin Powell, Brent Scowcroft, & Henry Kissinger.

Try actually listening rather then just screaming your ignorant political dogmas louder.

The people on the ground are saying your dogma is wrong.

You are 9000 miles away. You have no background or experience in Counter Insurgency. Just because “Run away” fits in with your habitual Neo Isolationist political dogma, does not mean you have the slightest hint of a clue of what is, or is not, a correct strategy.

The fact that you routinely strain out all facts that do not fit your knee jerk Neo Isolationist dogmas indicates you are even LESS fit to comment on this topic then most people.

The people on the ground are professionals, you are just some anonymous jerk with an attitude and a computer. The notion that anyone should listen to your ignorant opinions over their professional assessment is absurd and laughable.

I win this discussion because all you can do is call me names.

Why don't you try to defend COIN? Surely you could find some info on the internet supporting COIN. How did it work in Viet Nam?

Try this.

Insurgency requires no capital. COIN requires large capital investments.

Interesting,
I have two nephews that graduated West Point.
One a very liberal Dem, the other a very conservative born again, Republican.
Fun to listen to them discuss issues too.

While I understand your position, I really have no confidence in those who you point to as learned.
Just becuase you may have held a certain job, algore, jimmy carter doewn’t mean you have a clue.
Yes I care to hear what those on the ground have to say, I just feel the administration has an agenda, a preconceived ideqa of what they want and are naive.
So anonomyus Ben Ficklin,
tell us about yourself,
what do you do?
Work for the democrat party? work in a dirty movie theatre?

You are just like the other guy, you call me names.

You say you want the the US to win, but it is not about winning, it is about stabilizing.

You say we should listen to to what the military says, and if we were talking about strategies and tactics, that would be correct, but strategies and tactics are not being questioned. These are doctrinal issues and we certainly don't turn to the military to determine doctrines.
