Palin, Thompson show leadership while Romney and Huckabee exude cowardice
The Examiner ^ | 11/1/2008 | Kevin Hall

Sarah Palin and Fred Thompson had the guts to do what Mike Huckabee, Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich and the entire Republican Party would not do. One month ago, Thompson became the first prominent national Republican to endorse Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman in the New York District 23 Congressional race. Palin made an even bigger impact by endorsing Hoffman a week and a half ago. In doing so, Palin lived up to her penchant for going against the mainstream and taking on powerbrokers inside her own party.

The iron fist in a velvet glove and then just the plain old iron fist with a courtly offer of a shot of Southern Comfort after it pummels you!

Duly noted..and don't forget Newt.

And actually, Pawlenty endorsed. Do you think he has his finger to the wind?

Hoffman has some darn good backers...Thompson, Sarah, Santoram.

I pray he wins..what a “kick in the pants” boost it would be

The GOP will try (again) to stick Romney in the faces of it’s members as the GOP rep for the presidency. Only RINOS could stand that d-bag.

I gotta say I love listening to Fred Thompson’s radio show. He’s funny, humble, down-to-earth, and has some good insights on how Congress really works. I’d much rather listen to Fred than Rush, Sean or any of the other talkers.

Huck, Newt, Romney, all gutless establishment Republicans.
Newt and Romney especially don’t know what a conservative is.
Turncoats. They follow the money. That’s where their loyalties are.

Palin/Thompson -
Now that’s TWO leaders not in name only! By standing up for what they believe in - conservative values - they led the pack!

the irony is that for all the talk they did about being a team of mavericks and all of that, from what I know of Palin, McCain seems like the last type of Republican she’d support.

She didn’t endorse him in the primaries, from what I’ve found never really said anything positive about him until well after he had secured the nomination, let alone for the time she was Governor before that.

Nor did he really say anything positive about her. It’s pretty obvious she was picked because they thought having a woman VP would be the only thing that could flip the race in such an overwhelmingly dem year and none of the other women were seen as being conservative enough to get the support of the party at large. I doubt anyone on the McCain staff had any clue of the impact she’d have.

But McCain was really the only one who could have possibly picked her because of his unquestionable natl security and foreign policy credentials and his beltway expreience. Romney or Huckabee never could have picked her because they would have needed a guy like Biden or Cheney to shore up their foreign policy and security credentials like Obama and Bush did.

Funny how things work out sometimes

I wonder if there’s any chance Fred would run again. And maybe put some more effort into it unlike his 2008 bid. Lol. Seriously though, I think people may want an old, “grandpa”-ish guy after the effeminate man-child that is Obama.

I’ll admit I was a Giuliani guy last go around simply because I thought he was the one guy who could be counted on to take on the terorrists and Iran and I was confident he’d make the right Court appts regardless of his own views/ But I was open to all the other candidates. Nevertheless from the first time I saw Romney there was something fake and phony about him. I couldn’t put my finger on it but it just oozed through my tv. It wasn’t there with anyone else. I never though Huckabee was phony. Or McCain or Thompson, or even Paul.

But from the minute I saw Mitt, I just couldn’t shake that feeling.

I am not convinced that McCain picked her of his own free will. I don't think he is that clever. That could have caused some of the friction between them and contributed to the negative coverage of Palin.

I truly think that McCain wanted to run Lieberman as his VP.

That would have been a total annihilation during the election..instead of the small one we saw.

The article mentions Pawlenty’s endorsement, but it came after Palin’s. Nice to see he had more guts than Romney & Huckabee, tho.

I totally agree. But it makes me wonder if Pawlenty is trying to fly on the coattails. Just a curiosity.

Fred would give the right balance of experince to Palin and he would be great at handling the ‘dirty’ work that VP’s often do for the President. He would work well with congress and keeping the Republicans there in line as well. And he be a reassuring back-up to Palin as SMCC1 put it:
“I think people may want an old, “grandpa”-ish guy after the effeminate man-child that is Obama.” No they might not want him to lead, but they want him there to ‘grab the wheel’ when SHTF.

Romney has been working Virginia. I’m not sure who has appeared in NY so maybe you all can fill me in who is appearing where and for whom.
