” How many planned to return to India? I was shocked to see more than three-quarters of the audience raise their hands..”

....I would be pleased to see that...hopefully some American kids will study IT and take their place.

The brain drain America is experiencing is being caused by Congress allowing the H1b visa importation of cheaper high tech labor in lieu of US labor.

It won’t happen... Because most American kids have had a very bad education, especially in the sciences.

The US needs these people. The problem is that the immigration laws are not taking this into consideration. It’s better to be the cousin of an illiterate Mexican immigrant than a Ph. D. in engineering in the system.

This is very bad!

IMO corporations are trying to force down wages and benefits in the US. Then we will see jobs slowly come back for Americans.

We already have a tight supply of physicians in the US. Many thousands of US physicians are from Pakistan, India, and other developing nations. If “health care reform” cramps the income potential of physicians in this country, as many experts say it undoubtedly will, then it would take only a few hundred of these doctors’ decisions to return to their homelands to precipitate a major shortage of physicians in the United States. The predicted lines of waiting for care under ObozoCare may be coming sooner than anyone thinks.

How many planned to return to India? I was shocked to see more than three-quarters of the audience raise their hands.

Purely anecdotal, and probably self-serving. Only a few weeks ago we had articles about Americans grads seeking employment in China. (A closer reading revealed they thought it would enhance their resumes once they returned to the US.)

Not much can be taken at face value with regards to immigration, H1Bs, temporary workers, etc. Too many people pushing their personal self-interest.

The number from Pakistan compared to India is minuscule. Pakistan is an educationally, culturally, socially and economically backward country. It's the PC lib media that always clumps India and Pakistan together as if they were on par.

In addition, many American-born physicians are considering closing their offices as well, My mom’s primary care doctor, a woman in her late 40s, informed my mom that if Obamacare or any public option is approved, she will probably close her office if she cannot keep her patient load at present levels.

A Hong Kong-born surgeon I know reiterated the aforementioned.

The unfortunate thing is that whether IT or medicine, many American students lack the educational background for scientific disciplines. I informed one college-aged neighbor that a B- average won’t cut it for grad school (she thought she was doing pretty well - too much false self-esteem).

It’s not so much income reduction that is worrying the physicians. The ones I know stand to make more money under the new plans. Currently they get less than 50% of what they bill because they provide for so many illegals and those who just won’t pay. Even with a 20% reduction in reimbursement they’ll make much more money if everyone is covered.

The real concern is a government panel telling them what tests they can do and what they can’t prescribe. If they can’t do all the tests but then get sued for missing a diagnosis, they’re screwed.

True. I talk to many physicians in the course of my work, and my best girlfriend is a physician. Many of them have run the numbers and find that they couldn't afford to keep their offices open under Obamacare. They're actively looking for other fields to go into--jobs that don't involve patient care.

Probably that’s how many of them are underwater on their mortgages. They’d rather leave than overpay for their housing.

“shocked” ? what a moron

india paid for their education... funded the effort to have American companies import the cheap labor... all so they would get trained and be able to return to india with the skill set.

and yes, india had made the statement in the 90s that the country was to focus on the IT sector as their main industry

the only idiots here are the management morons that brought these people in to be trained, dumping Americans for the cheaper labor

all i can say is thank goodness computers and IT went the way of the buggy whip
