JACKSON, Miss.-- University of Mississippi football fans who refuse to stop chanting "the South will rise again" are on the verge of losing one of their favorite fight songs, the school's chancellor said Monday.
Ole Miss Chancellor Dan Jones said "From Dixie With Love" will no longer be played at games if fans continue the racially offensive chant.

Guess what chant will be even louder at Ole Miss’ next home game? With or without the song.

It’s pretty simplistic to call this chant racist. More like a states right chant than anything.

And what, exactly, is keeping the fans from singing and chanting regardless of what the University does?
Come on, Ole Miss, make this a First Amendment win.

Collectivists have forever used the charge of racism to denegrate those who are a threat to their power.
“States’ rights” is DEFINITELY a huge threat to their power,
so, “states’ rights” = “racism” is the natural conclusion for them.

It already is. The Chancellor made a strategic mistake by threatening to not have the song played. Game over. The fans will have their chant and their fight song too.

Is there a YouTube video to hear the song & the chant? I would love to hear it. And I would love for the Ole Miss fans to chant and sing the song even louder than before. Tell the politically correct weenie chancellor & mushy coaching staff & administration to stick it up their collective @$$es.

One of these days, they will beg for the cannon, not for touch downs but for defense.

“Jones said the words in the phrase are “harmful” because they’ve been used by integration opponents in the past. For years, the university has worked to rid itself of an Old South image that included the 1962 violent standoff over James Meredith’s admission as the university’s first black student.”
Ashamed of their Ross Barnett (Democrat governor) powered opposition to integration? Why do they always leave that out?

This would be an easy fix...the fans should just boycott the games...for awhile. The loss of funds would probably go a long way in convincing the powers that be to butt out.
What is it with everyone wanting to control and lord-and-master over everyone else?
Is it going to end up that any white person who speaks at all is a racist? Is part of "reparations" going to be that we must reverse the roles? Well, if that is it, it ain't going to work.
Whatever happened with all that slavery nonsense 400 years ago doesn't have an ice cube's chance in hell of happening again.
I remember back in the 60's when the University of Georgia had to change the name of their band - The Dixie Redcoat Band - to just the "Redcoat Band", dropping "Dixie" from their name and repertiore. Ironically, the song "Dixie" was written by a black man.
When will it end, if ever? Will be be racist if we wear a "cotton" T-shirt? After all, references to "cotton" in the song "Dixie" seems to be the problem.
Actually, it's part of the white guilt trip mantra used to control everyone these days. Well, sorry guys, I was born over 100 years after slavery ended, and had nothing to do with it. All races have had their slaves, and all races have had their Kings...it's part of history if humankind.
We have a government right now trying to enslave us all...reducing self-relient, productive citizens into jobless entitlement mongers. The leg chains are next.

Except for the years from 1861-1865 when the region was under a homegrown dictatorship, the South has not needed any rising other than electing a better quality of politicans. But all the attention given this story is nothing more than the old tactic of giving outsiders a good reason to feel morally superior by piling on the state of Mississippi. For many, particularly those of leftist leanings, the “thou” in “holier than thou” means Mississippi.

Fine. Do it. And while they are at it, there should be no more hip hop or rap crap played over the PA system. If this song is too “racist” to be allowed, then the other form of “racist” music should be banned. Why not ban music all together. Someone with extremely thin skin will find something to be offended by. Just do away with it entirely. That’ll make ‘em happy. Sheeesh, get a life. How is “the South will rise again” racist anyway?

I ask, no demand, that they immediately change the name of the team to something less offensive, like 'Buttercups'.

Those Southerners who had to endure the exploitation and abuse of the Reconstruction Era prayed for a Southern rebirth. It took nearly a hundred years to regain any significance.
The South shall Rise Again doesnt mean Confederate Money has been saved for use once again, but a vow to recover from the stagnant economy that plagued the region for so many years.
Of course there are those who want keep on punishing the South for the past.
On the other hand, Dan Jones needs to find a scapegoat or a diversion from the fact that their promising football season has tanked.
