House Health Bill Has Nowhere to Go in Senate

WASHINGTON -- The glow from a health care triumph faded quickly for President Barack Obama on Sunday as Democrats realized the bill they fought so hard to pass in the House has nowhere to go in the Senate.

Speaking from the Rose Garden about 14 hours after the late Saturday vote, Obama urged senators to be like runners on a relay team and "take the baton and bring this effort to the finish line on behalf of the American people."

The problem is that the Senate won't run with it. The government health insurance plan included in the House bill is unacceptable to a few Democratic moderates who hold the balance of power in the Senate.

If a government plan is part of the deal, "as a matter of conscience, I will not allow this bill to come to a final vote," said Sen. Joe Lieberman, the Connecticut independent whose vote Democrats need to overcome GOP filibusters.

"The House bill is dead on arrival in the Senate," Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said dismissively.

The democrats are going to use the ‘nuclear’ option and run with 51 votes. COUNT ON IT

Strategically, this is the time they will use it.

And after that ... here comes cap and trade and AMNESTY to ensure that 2010 will not blow up in the dems faces. BET on it.

After seeing this abortion pass the House of Reps, Congress is now firmly in the position that they RULE the United States and are not just governing in the public interest.

Known about this since last night.

Coolers heads on FR have explained it succintly last night. Reid will be ousted in Nevada 100% if he ever tried to pass and lead on this. The AP (Obama’s propaganda machine) have even accepted it’s death. Thank you Tea Parties...

They may...and regret it for sure! The problem is that is could pass before the 2010 elections that throw all of these clowns out of office.

What I really want to hear from Republicans is that they will actively run to revoke this bill and all of its revisions. Have not heard a single word about that - crickets...

And no... I will not sleep better tonight because the Senate “might” not vote for this monstrosity... They will just pass something worse or along similar lines. Seems that all of our elected Senators and Representatives have long forgotten the Constitution!

Worse...the stupid Supreme Court will just go along with it... A Revolution is brewing...

IF this is true, it will be one of the single greatest triumphs for America in pulling back from the brink of oblivion. Again, I temper this with, IF it is true.

I’m confident this thing will die on the table, provided we don’t let our foot of the pedal. The one great thing about it is that the phony “blue dogs” are now on record, and they signed their own order of execution. They traded their jobs for nothing. Do they really believe they can go back to the voters and get reelected now? I personally can’t wait for November 2010.

I hope everyone is right here, but my bet is about 75% of America doesn't know what the "nuclear option" is. They probably figure that it won by 51 votes so we have socialized medicine now. I had a hell of a time trying to educate the Joe Sixpacks of the world that Bush won with the electoral college. They just couldn't get it. Gore got the popular vote, then they announced the Bush win. They had never heard of it before. Then to make it worse, he won again in Florida with a squeaker.

I'm sure now they will hear "nuclear option" and exclaim, "BOUT TIME!" "Drop the damn thing!"

Im thinking the will introduce a different version. In this article it says: "Reid has pledged to Obama that he will get the bill done by the end of the year and remains committed to doing that, according to a Senate leadership aide."

I dont think this is over yet either, but the House version pushed through on a Saturday midnight by Nazi Pelosi might be finished.

The democrats are going to use the ‘nuclear’ option and run with 51 votes.

At least six Dem Senators and Lieberman aren't going to vote for it. In addition to the RINO Maine sisters.
Even if it passes the Senate, it still has to reconcile with the House version of the bill (the Senate version is much more moderate than the House bill and there's no way the House liberals are going to accept anything less than the Public Option.

This thing is dead, which is why I don't understand why FReepers are freaking out over yesterday's vote. This will drag into next year and then the mid-terms are going to be underway.

I saw many stories of this kind about the House bill. I don’t believe it, I think the fix is in.

Reid sees the tea leaves. He won’t run again. He can do the nuclear option and not have to worry about re-election, letting the seat go to an ‘untainted’ democrat candidate that has a better chance of winning than he does.

This is a nice news story, but it is 100% wishful thinking. Lindsey Graham, John Mcain, Olympia Snowe, and the others will shepard this through safe and sound. Schumer will shame them into it with his relentless, unapologetic attacks and the media will repeat and amplify every word like gospel. In the end, they will claim to “have no choice” but to use the nuclear otion against the “evil insurance companies, greedy doctors, anf the party-of-no Republicans” and pass in in the dead of night with 51 votes. 7 lucky Democrats will be spared and the rest are in safe districts. Obama will sign it within 2 hours at 3AM and it will be the law of the land.
