He is now talking to doctors at the Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas.FBI agents and military investigators are waiting at the hospital to interview him.

That means Fed civvy court and full appeals process.

I imagine the guy woke up thinking, this wasn't supposed to happen.
The people caring for him at Brooke wear the same uniform of the men and women he shot and unlike him are fulfilling their Hypocratic Oath. That's got to be tough, but they are real pros.
