Stopping the Next McVeigh
Daily Beast ^ | 11/7/09 | James Verini

Posted on 11/09/2009 1:29:53 PM PST by steve-b

Neo-Nazis took to the streets in Arizona and Minnesota this weekend, a new boldness that officials say echoes the homegrown terrorism of the 1990s. James Verini talks to the extremists leading the charge.

A year after President Obama's election, hate groups are feeling bolder than they have in over a decade, and their usually insular anger is beginning to spill into the public realm. This weekend, the National Socialist Movement, a neo-Nazi organization, held rallies in Arizona and Minnesota. Those demonstrations came on the heels of similar actions in Southern California, where epithet-spewing white supremacists were forced to disband by rock-throwing counter-protesters. The upsurge in visibility is more than anecdotal—law-enforcement officials are monitoring levels of agitation among extremist groups that they say are the highest since Timothy McVeigh's deadly attack in Oklahoma City nearly 15 years ago.

"It's sort of a beehive now," says James Cavanaugh, a special agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Cavanaugh was one of the agents at the standoff at David Koresh's Waco, Texas, compound in 1993 (which McVeigh timed his terrorist act to commemorate, two years later, on April 19, 1995). Last October in Tennessee, Cavanaugh aided in the arrest of two white supremacists charged with plotting to assassinate Obama, and in 2007 he helped bring down members of the Alabama Free Militia, who were found with hundreds of hand- and rifle grenades and other explosives. The arrests had an unsettling familiarity. "We haven't had that kind of activity since the 1990s," Cavanaugh says.

"We believe there is a real resurgence," adds Lieutenant David Hall, director of the Missouri Information Analysis Center, which tracks antigovernment extremist groups around the Midwest. "The atmosphere is ripe."

So where might another McVeigh—or worse—spring from?...

Forgot the classic for a moment.

Holy Roman Empire.

That was it’s name for close on a thousand years, but it was none of the above.

A nazi terrorist by any other name is still a nazi terrorist.

Why is it that every time a non-white person commits a crime, the media feels compelled to counterpart it to a white criminal?

Do they think, that WE think the crime was not as bad if a white committed it, therefore reducing the seriousness of the non-white perp?

But if they want to compare Husan to McVeigh, great...we executed McVeigh, didn't we?

I thought liberal claim they may not support your ideas but they will fight to the death so that you may say them.

"Rock throwing"? Doesn't sound like a peace movement at all.

PS, do these same "anti-racist" protesters go to challenge the pro-Palestianian war groups that are rabidly anti-semitic?

The media is silent over the prosection AND CONVICTION of Democrat activists at the RNC Convention in 2008 who had firebombs and had plotted to bomb the RNC convention as well as activists who plotted to kidnap Republican delegates to disrupt the convention.

The Pravda Media lies. Is the Tennessee plot anything like the Denver "plot" from some methheads?

Every mosque in the country is ripe with McVeighs.

And maybe John Doe #2 is still in one.

His actions were officially called an act of domestic terrorism the very next day.

The propaganda machine still runs hard against the KKK, etc. and the evil White racists who really haven't been a power for generations. They should be watching Muslims, but THEY will really kill. They still run the same tired documentaries on Discovery, History Channel or similar channel while gang bangers kill more than were ever lynched.

This is a safe PC approved demon they can beat on for fun and profit.

Homegrown Terrorists?

Was there a Mideastern Connection to McVeigh?

Jayna Davis said it was there.

Anarchist-Socialists call themselves “anti-fascist” or “antifa” (seriously) and need the “cover” of “gathering to protest neonazism” to shield public scrutiny of their own violent rhetoric and vandalizing riots.

They TOO are a public menace. They claim the high moral ground when in reality they call all cops “fascists” as well as Bush and Free Republic “fascist”.

I condemn nazism, communism, and Islamic supremacist ideologies.

The anarchist-socialists cannot make the same claim truthfully.

Is Steve-b the next McVeigh? LOL!

I read the article and as soon as the author gave credit to Glenn Beck regarding the FEMA concentration camps, I knew I was reading an author who was a hack and not someone to take seriously.

And yes, there are videos of Obama talking about a civilian corps just as big and just as expensive as the U.S. Military. The author of the article didn’t bother to check. He left it open for the reader (I guess people like Steve-b) to conclude that this guy is a nut.

At least the article didn’t bore me. But I do hate a commentator who doesn’t bother to fact check.

Everybody and his brother KNOWS that Glenn Beck did not participate in the FEMA Concentration Camp nonsense.

His only participation was, at the request of someone else, to research it.

Oh yes, and there is indeed video of Anita Dunn speaking lovingly of her boy Mao Tsetung.

and for the record, not all muslims are Islamic supremacists.

Nadil Hasan reportedly told some other doctors at a conference that the infidels should have their heads chopped off and hot oil poured down their throats. THAT is Islamic supreamicst talk. Any discriminatory rhetoric against people simply because they are not muslim. Calls for Sharia Courts in the West (or even support for them as a legal system of justic in the Middle East) is a call for institutionalized discrimination (Islamic law distinguised between muslims and non-muslims and affords fewer rights and protections for non-muslims).

The National Socialist Workers Party is deeply embedded in the so-called democrat party, and they follow an ancient Teutonic religion called environmentalism just like the leadership of the old German NSADP. The next terrorist will rise from this party. Wasn’t the mass murderer Major Hasan a big obuma supporter? I rest my case, leftist fools.

Everyone in the media seem to ignore that McVeigh had Islamic ties. When he was busted, he had phone numbers on him from Indonesia. Plus the fact that right after the attack, local law enforcement put out a BOLO for two Dark skinned males. He was John Doe number 2, and he had something to do with 9-11.
Neo Nazi groups have more goverment informants in them than real Nazis. They are more of a threat to themselves than anyone else.
Of course, this isnt mentioning eco terrotist groups like ELF and ALF.They are ignored even though they do more damage than any so called militia group.

This is expected to take the focus off Moozies who are the real threat to us all, but the far left (such as the Southern Poverty Law Center, from which much of this garbage comes from) would much rather everyone worry about the little old lady in a wheel chair or old gray-haired man at a tea party rally than the real threat.

Its all part of their agenda (including DEAR LEADER and his clueless lap dogs, Napolitano & Holder) and it will be the death of us if we don't wake up soon.
